The Role
I really enjoyed my work placement as I was given plenty of opportunities to develop through my role as a SOX and Compliance intern. You are given real responsibility and Travelport has an extremely supportive and welcoming environment. Outside of my role as a SOX and Compliance intern, there were also other opportunities to develop such as intern sessions that were designed for us to learn more about different areas of the company and we were given advice on our CV and LinkedIn profiles from the recruitment team at Travelport.
I felt extremely valued by my colleagues and they were always grateful for my help. This was demonstrated when the SOX team awarded me a Beyond Monthly award for my hard work, dedication and invaluable contribution to the team. At Travelport you don't just feel like an intern, you feel like you a valued part of the team.
I was given a lot of support and guidance by my manager and other members of the SOX team. No matter how busy they were, they were always there if I had any questions or needed any help. They have also given me support and guidance about my future career which was extremely useful.
On a daily basis, I was fairly busy but some days were busier than others depending on deadlines. I enjoyed the level of work I had as I learnt more and I love a challenge.
I was given a lot of responsibility during my placement and I did the same level of work that a finance analyst would do. The responsibility of work I was given challenged me and has given me a great insight in to what work is really like in a finance department as an analyst.
The skills and training that I have received has helped me decide what career I would like to go in to and how to get there. It has also helped me improve my CV and I now have real examples of demonstrating transferable skills that I can use in graduate job interviews and online application forms.
The Company
The atmosphere in the office was welcoming, friendly and supportive.
The work placement was well organised. My role developed as the year went on as I was the first intern in the SOX and Compliance department.
Travelport invested a lot in our training and development. Examples of this are the intern sessions that are set up to help us learn more about different areas of the company. We were also given intern sessions on improving our CVs and LinkedIn to help us get a job after we graduate.

I would like to be able to work for Travelport again and there are currently openings in finance roles, however there is no graduate scheme which other companies do offer.
The Culture
There was a good social scene between interns and other colleagues. There is a Travelport Social Club that offers social events for all Travelport colleagues. These include discounted theatre show tickets, a summer boat party and quiz nights. The interns also often socialised outside of work and when you begin your placement there is social activities for you to get to know each other such as foot golf.
The cost of living can be quite expensive if you are renting. This is because of the proximity of the office to London. Drinks can be more expensive than other areas of England.
I lived in Uxbridge which is about a 20 minute drive to the office. There was a nightclub in Uxbridge and several bars. Brunel University is located in Uxbridge so the nightclub was quite popular on certain nights for students.
Yes there were many opportunities through the Travelport Social Club and the interns often arrange social activities.
