The Role
I thoroughly enjoyed my time at EY. I was exposed to plenty of different interesting projects and everyone made sure I understood what was going on. In general, everyone was super welcoming and patient.
Everyone made sure that I understood the task I was given to do and the context behind it. They were all super patient as well since they knew I had no tax knowledge. They made sure to explain the project and were very patient about it.
Everyone around me were very friendly and if I needed anything, I could always ask anyone around me regardless of the type of task I was asking about. I also had catch-up with my counsellor twice a week to discuss my progress throughout the six weeks. On top of that, if I needed anything, I could also just Skype anyone and they would be more than happy to help.
Most of the time I was quite busy. Near the beginning I needed my buddy to ask around whether anyone had anything they'd like me to do however after I was familiar with the team I just asked around myself for work and usually there was always someone out there who did. If it wasn't the case then someone was always more than happy to talk about what they were doing to help me learn.
Most of the tasks I carried out did add value to the project as I could see them in the final product, so I definitely say I was given quite a lot of responsibility.
I wouldn't say the skills will help me in my degree, however it has definitely developed my commercial awareness skills
The Company
One of my favourite things about EY would definitely be the atmosphere as everyone is super friendly and the environment is very relaxed and chill. The hot desk system also means that you have exposure to a lot of different types of people such as directors, partners and senior manager, helping breakdown the barriers if you want to communicate with them
I personally didn't think the induction was very well organised as we had no information on our service line even after the induction day. So that is definitely something they could improve on, however once we actually got settled I think it just depended on yourself to make the most out of it
Other than the fact that we learnt from the job, I don't think EY recruitment particularly made any effort to make our time there enjoyable as we only had one social event at the end and throughout the while 6 weeks, we had very limited communication from them.
Flexi Time
Sports and Social Club
Company Parties/Events
Definitely somewhere I can see myself working
The Culture
Only 1 social event was organised by the student recruitment and that was at the end so on that end it was pretty non-existent, however my service line itself was quite social.
Since it was in London, it is always quite expensive. But since I live here as a student I'm used to it so it was ok.
London Bridge has plenty of facilities such as pubs and bars so it's good.
There were definitely a few but we didn't really have much exposure to them. For a lot of the sports, it was also the end of season so they weren't practicing anymore.
