    About You

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy the insight?
  • RBS is and has always been my favourite firm and hence I had lot of expectations. Luckily, none of these lead to me being left disappointed. I had a great experience, learned a lot and made lots of new friends. I became hands-on insights into what it is like to be a financial analyst and this is exactly what I wanted!

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued during your time at the company or firm?
  • I knew that I would not always feel valued by my co-workers as I would by my parents. Of course, I informed myself about firms, such as RBS, and hence also knew about how human resources is handled. So me not having felt valued all the time was not a problem specific to my placement, but is rather general thing.

  • 3. How much guidance/support did you receive during the insight?
  • Guidance was good. I was always free to ask as long as I did not pose a dumb question which I could have solved on my own as well. But once you manage this, I could have asked anybody to help me out. The work environment was really relaxed, and above all people were really motivated.

  • 4. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and information you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • I developed a lot of interdisciplinary skills, such as human skills. These are really valuable not only for my career but in every situation in life. Obviously, I only have my friends’ report to compare my experience with but this aspect is definitely why I would recommend anybody to do this internship, even if you are not as interested in finance.

    The Company

  • 5. How well structured was the insight?
  • My internship was structured well. I was responsible for a fixed amount of projects at the same time and expectations were clear. Besides, there events for interns were organised on a regular basis. Even though, my work times were not fixed and I even had to do something for an MD on the weekend, the structure and organisation was top-notch.

  • 6. How was the general atmosphere during your insight?
  • The internship at RBS was a great experience filled with friendly people. I completed a spring week at another company before this one and I can say that the atmosphere at the Spring Programme at RBS was hands down more pleasant. Senior managers took their time to network with us and graduate took their time to hang out with us and give us tips to get into the company.

  • 7. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • In my opinion the company put in a lot of effort to give us a great experience. I learned a lot about what it is like to work full-time at a company (it was my first time working ever), I gained a better understanding of what factors can affect a company and what steps I have to take in the future if I want to be part of RBS.

  • 8. To what extent did the insight help you to understand what it would be like to have a full time role with the company or firm?
  • To a great extent. The presentations were really helpful to show the career possibilities and the group tasks involved real life tasks that showcased the daily life of the employees. I definitely want to work RBS in the future and it showed my finally what this career path will be right for me.

    4/5

  • 9. How much did the insight help you in understanding the company culture?
  • I have gained a good understanding of the company culture and what it is like to work for the company RBS. All the presentation, activities and networking events with employees have drawn a great picture of what it is like to be part of the company. The competitive image at an investment bank did not turn out to be the case.

  • 10. How valuable was the content in helping you to decide on your future career path?
  • 3/5

    Everything Else

  • 11. Were you paid or reimbursed adequately for this experience?

  • 12. Were there opportunities for networking and meeting other employees of the company or firm?
  • 3/5

  • 13. How were the networking/ social event opportunities?
  • 3/5

  • 14. Did you find out about activities that employees can get involved in outside of work?
  • 3/5

  • 15. Would you recommend this insight to a friend?
  • This internship is a great opportunity for everyone who wants to learn more not only about RBS but also about yourself. It is for students who strive to become better and want to educate their selves about what is out there. It is competitive to get in and requires hard work. For anyone who is not willing to do those above mentioned things, the internship is not right for you. If yes, I would give it a shot.
