The Role
The placement was fabulous - I couldn't fault it in the slightest. I felt really valued by my whole team and feel that I made a genuine contribution to tasks and activities.
I felt extremely valued by my colleagues. On our first day HR took us all out for a lunch where we were able to bond, and my team also organised a welcome lunch for me. I felt that all of the world I did was appreciated and valued.
Very much so. I had weekly one to one meetings with my manager, and he actively encouraged me to ask questions whenever I wanted, regardless of what he was doing (even if he was eating lunch!). My manager really did everything he could to make the internship the best experience it could be for me, and he even let me sit in on board meetings!
There was never a time that I didn't have something to do. I had a few ongoing tasks which I did when workflow was slightly less, but there was always something to do / meetings to attend.
Lots of responsibility. All of the work that I did was trusted that I would have completed to a high standard. I also was given the responsibility to do work across the business through attending meetings and being given work from those meetings.
Very much so - I had insight sessions which really taught me about the asset management business from a very basic level ( I don't come from a finance background), which I am sure I will be able to incorporate into my degree further down the line.
The Company
M&G has a very flat structure. You could genuinely ask anyone a question and they would be happy to help. The atmosphere in my team was light hearted and fun, and we all also socialised outside of the office as well which was great.
Extremely well organised. When I arrived at my desk my team had set everything up for me already, and HR did a fabulous job at running the insight sessions, welcoming us to the business and hosting socials. I could not fault the organisation of the internship.
The company invested a lot in me and my learning. Everyone was always incredibly happy to help, and the intern insight sessions were a true reflection of M&G's excellent culture, where the interns were taught industry knowledge from industry professionals.
Subsidised Canteen
Healthcare from home
Very appealing. Everyone on my scheme is really hoping to be accepted onto the graduate scheme because M&G is such a great company to work for.
The Culture
Yes absolutely. Every week there were multiple socials (some organised by HR, others organised by interns), which included playing rounders, going for drinks (sometimes also with the graduates), going clubbing, a CSR day.
Central London prices.. although the canteen food is really excellent value for money.
Fabulous! Central London nightlife is great and there was always a night that suited everyone.
Lots of opportunities - my team are currently making a Fantasy Football Team, there are regularly drinks in the pub down the road from the office which I was regularly invited to. I am aware that the men had a football team as well.
