The Role
Thoroughly enjoyed the placement. Having 2 different rotations was a good way to get good insight into two different teams within the bank. Everyone that I came across at HSBC was very willing to help when I needed it and spent a lot of time with me explaining what they do, giving advice, educating me and generally be at my disposal.
Felt very valued by both my placement managers who provided me with meaningful projects for me to complete that actually contributed to their team.
Support was always available when I needed, however I was not spoon fed. Some things I was expected to find out to myself but I did always have the support net of my managers and the team surrounding me.
I was busy 70% of the time. There were periods that I was less busy, due to the heavy bureaucratic processes in HSBC of getting set up on relevant systems.
Was given a good amount of responsibility. One outcome from one of my projects has led to someone being hired specifically to fix the issues which I identified.
They will extremely help. Having had to do 2 presentations again big audiences of high calibre has provided me with confidence and experience in presenting which will help me in future ones I take part in. My time management skills have also improved as well as my networking skills. I have become confident talking to anyone due to the internship. Also gave me good insight into having a career at HSBC.
The Company
Good atmosphere in both my placement, first placement was definitely more fun than the second but the general atmosphere in both was great.
It was organised well. There were some issues with pay and a big issue of not being able to do work for a while due to lack of access to relevant systems however this is the bank as a whole and not the internship organisation specifically.
I was sent to the global discovery day which is a training day out of the office. As well as this everyone in the teams spent a large mount of time talking to me and explaining certain things to ensure that I had the knowledge required.

The Culture
Social scene is what you make of it. They are lacking more organised social events for all but if you have found yourself a good group of interns to socialise with then of course you could make your own social events.
Standard London prices.
Countless bars/restaurants/clubs.
Not enough.
