The Role
Overall an enjoyable experience. I met some good friends and contacts as well as using their experience to improve my own knowledge and skills.
Colleagues made it clear that my input and ideas added value to discussions, projects and every-day work.
I was often left to my own devices and driving my own projects, sometimes with minimal guidance. Periodic input from management would have been beneficial.
I was given some projects to work on, other than that I was able to keep myself busy by contributing to the wider team.
I was given a lot of responsibility when leading certain projects.
The engineering side of the placement was lacking slightly, and did not align much with the course that I have been studying - Mechanical Engineering - however understanding the products and their mechanisms was a benefit to my knowledge on understanding the engineering principles behind them.
The Company
Generally a relaxed setting, however some aspects of the office atmosphere was compromised by localised, on-going issues within the department I was working in.
Clear objectives from the start of the internship, as well as training was not organised, however the interns that started a year after me had a well-structured induction program which shows the company has invested and improved the set up. From a local point of view, integration within the department was slow, as the role of the internship was unclear to others.
Formal training involved courses that were not related to my engineering degree, however there was some courses available that can develop IT skills. However, there are some very experienced and knowledgeable employees that invest time and pass on their knowledge to improve development.

There are some very influential and experienced employees at Volvo Group UK who are willing to help and make the workplace an enjoyable place to be. In a position that suits the candidate, the Volvo Group is a very appealing place to work.
The Culture
There was opportunity for the placement students to socialise on occasions.
Around the Warwick area, it is very expensive to live, however with Coventry and Leamington nearby, it has good facilities and the chance to socialise easily.
The nightlife in Warwick is ok as there is a lot of student from the nearby university.
There was a social club that you could join.
