The Role
I thoroughly enjoyed my 8 week internship at Fidelity International in Operational Management as I was exposed to a wide range of tasks within a diverse set of business streams.
I certainly felt valued by my manager and colleagues as my analysis findings and subsequent recommendations were accounted for in the project of which I was assigned. Initiatives were planned on the back of these findings.
I was given an extensive amount of support from my manager. My manager, where relevant, passed on as much of her skills, knowledge and expertise as possible. Thus allowing me to complete the tasks I was assigned to a higher standard.
For the majority of the days I was busy working on a combination of independent tasks or group workshops. On days were I was relatively less busy, I arranged meetings with project managers from different business streams to gain a greater insight into Fidelity.
I was given a considerable amount of responsibility from the outset. In particular, I was assigned compliance based gap analysis on a regulatory change programme which will form part of the basis for major operational changes throughout the company.
The research and analysis skills I acquired will certainly be useful in my studies. The business acumen that I learnt from my manager, such as effective communication and efficient leadership, has furthered my career development.
The Company
Friendly, inclusive atmosphere.
On the overall the internship was very well organised with a series of Lunch and Learn sessions to learn more about Fidelity and the industry.
Invested in a series of training days with Kaplan such as Excel and Financial Market Introduction training days. Also, learnt a lot about the way Fidelity operates through a series of Lunch and Learn sessions.
Flexi Time
Subsidised Canteen
Above 25 days holiday
I really enjoyed the internship but I was sceptical as to whether the graduate programme would reflect this experience as the retention rate for grads is so low. However, the graduate scheme is being rejuvenated as of September 2017.
The Culture
Many social events were planned.
Living in Kent was relatively cheap, London was not.
Quiet.
A few social events were planned.
