The Role
Found it extremely enjoyable and gave me massive insight into my potential future career path
All members of my team were willing to give advice, and support me with anything I needed.
Line manager always made time to answer questions, actively looked to introduce me to other teams and colleagues and really looked to engage me within the team through discussion and pieces of work.
Had work to progress with throughout my time. Some days less busy than others but as internship went on I became more and more able to initiate work by myself.
Allowed to use my own initiative to arrange meetings and shadowing opportunities within various teams of my choosing.
I have a far greater understanding of how processes and decisions are made within a large business. Enabled valuable experience of professional behaviour and how a Senior manager works, and thinks. Work priority skill will greatly aid me in my assignments etc. The practical application of theory and business methods will help me put the material I am learning on my BA Business Studies course into a real-world context.
The Company
Very forma, surrounded by a large number of Senior manager, directors, and Heads of within my group. Also worked across the office from the Managing director of Global Payments. Everyone happy to help but also helped me gain a strategic thinking mentality.
Had to change my location which understandably caused some confusion. however initial information and communication was exceptional, but following the change of location there were a number of issues. 1. Placement address and location was the incorrect office (sent details for 48 Chiswell St, upon arrival my first day found out it should have been 33 Old Broad Street, London. Also found at the Induction event my name badge still said my old assigned location of Birmingham on it. I was also sat at a table with all Birmingham interns. I also found a few weeks in, Reed had not been updated on my new location so had to resolve with them myself to ensure my payslip was correct, and they had all my correct office details.
Encouraged me to complete all Banking online training courses. Also involved me on the Aspire courses designed to give a basic overview of how a bank works which I found very useful.
Very. Looking to gain a place on the Graduate Scheme upon graduating.
The Culture
Did not get much interaction with other interns.
Lived at home. Had fairly long commute so went straight home, food quite expensive around London.
