About You
The internship at Barclays was my dream and it turned out to be an amazing experience. Every individual who was selected to be part of the Spring Programme was so unique and I am happy to connect with. I have learned a lot about the finance industry and my opportunities at the company
My time at Barclays was very inspiring and it was an unforgettable experience to be part one of the big four. I felt valued because I had the opportunity to talk to senior managers and our advisors encouraged everyone to get involved. Furthermore, all employees were friendly and sometimes started a chat and showed interest in us as individuals
The support throughout the insight at Barclays was great. I was nervous at first and wondered how I will handle this new situation. But, the support from moderators during group tasks at any time or in general took away any concerns that I had. As I have heard from the other interns, they all felt well supported.
Having finance modules in my degree the internship definitely helped to gain knowledge which will be very beneficial in my studies. However, and in my opinion more importantly, are the transferable skills that I have gained that will be helpful in any life situation later such as communication skills or team working skills.
The Company
This internship was very well structured and followed a strict programme which was handed out to us at the beginning of the insight. Everything was followed perfectly and could be seen as sort of a FAQ. This helped me personally to gain a great insight over my time there and what I can expect which in turned allowed me to prepare mentally and be on top of my game.
The atmosphere was great and not as scary as I imagined at the beginning. I have heard of many friends saying the working at a financial firm can be very boring but this didn’t turn out to be true. The culture was quite lively and many outgoing individuals work for the company who contribute all to this pleasant culture.
The company invested in my personal development. It appears that the company are willing to invest a lot of time and energy into you. All the employees appear to get on very well despite not working on the same team and were so friendly and approachable, setting an extremely high expectation of what all staff will be like at Barclays. The way the staff acted with us alone, made me want to work in the Barclays environment - it seems a very enjoyable place to work.
Altough it was only for a few days, I got a good impression about the company’s culture. It was better than I have expected from a financial firm, which usually has not the best name for being a career filled with joy. However, it was actually very fun and interesting.
The content was very valuable and helped me in terms of what I want to do in the future. I got a better understanding how it is to work for a big investment bank and I am more keen than ever to start a career in in the financial industry and I hope to get a position with Barclays.
Everything Else
Without hesitation I would recommend the Spring Programme at Barclays to a friend who is interested in finance. It paid off in terms of personal development, to get a feel what it is like to be an accountant and the company culture at Barclays. Especially the atmosphere was great and hence, overall a great week.
