The Role
I feel that the internship was enjoyable. The other interns were exactly as you would expect from such a well renowned business. Warm, wecloming and when you've moved to London for the first time this is exactly what you want. The work was always changing and interesting and the recruitment staff provided many opportunities to interact with other aspects of the bank.
I felt very valued. It was clear to me that my work was being used and that some of the work I complete will continue to be used once I have left the internship. Colleagues also went out of their way constantly to make me feel comfortable.
Excellent support/ guidance. I was always given the opportunity to question what I did not understand and there was no such thing as a stupid question. this support extended well beyond my line manager as Directors and Managing Directors were always at hand to offer valuable input.
There was always work to be done if you are proactive. Many tasks can be short or difficult to take to a next level. It was obvious to me that to get the most out of the internship you had to be proactive and deliver on more than just what is expected of you.
I was given the freedom to approach many tasks in a way that I wanted to. It was my responsibility to provide work at a quality standard without the constant supervision of my line manager.
I will definitely be more organised. Time management was key to the internship and as such this is something I feel I have improved and will apply to my studies. The ability to analyse situations and be critical in my work will also undoubtably have an impact on my studies/ future career.
The Company
Professional and relaxed. Colleagues knew when to be professional and to get work done and when it was the right time to have a laugh and interact with eachother building realtionships on a personal level with other colleagues.
Very well. there were plenty of opportunities to attend talks and conferences to get to know about other aspects of the organisation and to meet new colleagues. As for work there was a clear plan for what you had to acheive on your internship and the variety of work you would be doing over the time at Barclays.
They invested a lot. They always tried to get you to do new things when you had free time. Training courses on the internet helped you to learn more abnout your business area and also to leaern more about other aspect of the financial markets and financial industry in general. Personal training most took the form of learning by doing throughout your work. Constantly learning new ways to better present work or other ways of approaching a challenge meant you were always developing

Very appealing. There is a clear importance placed on the grad scheme for Barclays and by gaining future employment you know that you will be valued and developed into an industry leading employee with future prospects far beyond that of competitors.
The Culture
Yes, interns and colleagues would often be socialising outside of work hours. Many of the interns I have met are going to long term friends as we have much in common and spent a lot of time socialising in London during the internship. The recruitment staff throughout the internship were also constantlyorganising events to network with new people.
Relatively expensive. However transport links are easy to use and get to, only a short walk, meaning socialising in the area of Canary Wharf was a good place to meet during/ after work but you could then travel into London and find a more affordable place to go. This applied to cost of living in terms of accomodation too. Accomodation in Canary Wharf is expensive however transport links readily available meant you could stay anywhere you wanted in London and still not be hassled getting to work. Barclays also generously offer a relocation sllowance to subsidise living costs whilst based on the internship.
Great variety of pubs and places to eat. Plenty to satisfy anyones preferences. Transport links also meant you could travel further into Central London from work to take advantage of the fantastic nightlife London had to offer.
Yes. Interns had access to joining sports team with Barclays and also the opportunities to do non work related activities with other interns or colleagues outside of work hours. It was evident you arent viewed as an intern during the time on the internship. You are a valued member of the organisation that colleagues want to interact with both in and outside of the office.
