The Role
I really enjoyed my summer internship at Barclays. We were well taken care of and had a great experience. Colleagues and other interns were the highlight. Some parts of the internship were a bit less busy, but overall great!
I had an amazing team. They could be demanding, but also rewarding and very helpful in every situation. There wasn't one time where I felt I was left alone. I hope to stay in contact with my team and other interns in the future.
Great support. I could easily reach out to anyone for help.
Some days were more busy than others and there might have been a "soft" day here and there, but overall, I was given a fair share of work.
I was in charge of improving an entire process. I was also communicating and answering daily to directors. I thus feel like I had important responsibilities (and not just work for the sake of work) while still being really well supported which made the tasks less daunting than they originally sounded like.
I learnt more in this placement than in my entire undergrad. We get to actually interact with products we had only approched theoratically before. Plus my Excel and VBA skills went through the roof after this internship. Finally, Barclays is also a great name to have on the CV.
The Company
My team was the friendliest I could've had. Really went on well with them. We worked hard but still joked around and were quite casual between each other. Lots of events on the side allowed us to get to know people better and make the atmosphere friendlier overall.
Except for IT issues at the start, the work placement was well organised. We were kept updated via email constantly and the HR/Campus On Boarding team could be reached easily. Coming from France (placement was in the UK), all the requirements (bank account, national insurance number, taxes, etc.) were well setup.
When you arrive at Barclays, on top of your actual work at the desk, you get to meet a lot of directors and managing directors all accross the office, you have specific conversations setup just to get to know certain departments better, we have access to training websites, etc. All in all, once you start the summer internship, you really feel like Barclays wants to keep you for the graduate and thus invests a lot in you.

I decided not to go with the graduate programme for personal reasons, but the employment prospects are great. Graduate offers are not limited to a few and the firm really encourages you to perform. Once you become a full-time employee, you can go higher up in ranks by applying to vacancies within Barclays which makes it competitive but achievable.
The Culture
Lots of events organised among interns both by Barclays and by ourselves. Networking as a whole was heavily encouraged by the firm.
London is an expensive city, but these summer internships are well paid. On top of the salarym Barclays provides you with a housing allowance which was really nice.
It's London, of course it's going to be great!
Lots of events organised by Barclays: drinks, networking events, conferences, football/voleyball matches, etc. London itself has a ton to do, 2 months wasn't enough to visit it all.
