The Role
The internship was challenging but rewarding and gave me the opportunity to learn that the industry is exactly where I want to be.
This varied greatly from rotation to rotation, but in general I felt valued in terms of what an intern is able to ad to the team.
For the most part I had significant support and guidance, although there was a distinct contrast between certain managers/rotations.
Very busy - there was so much to learn every day and always new ways to add value to the desk
Real responsibility was limited but this is expected for an intern without license/experience to actively carry out the role of a trader/salesperson
Although not relevant to my degree, very relevant for any career going forward.
The Company
The atmosphere was mixed between teams but generally full of life and energy on a consistent basis; work hard play hard mentality
The general structure of the internship was good but there were some areas that could use work in terms of delivery such as the relevance of the training sessions at the start of the internship.
A significant amount of training sessions were available, although these were not necessarily available to interns are the right time (i.e. macro university sessions half-way through for interns moving from equities)
Subsidised Canteen
Company Parties/Events
Very appealing, although official offer has not been confirmed yet.
The Culture
Interns were very sociable and outgoing as well as most colleagues.
London is very expensive and the salary/accommodation allowance was provided after a month of already living in London. This should ideally be provided at the start of the internship.
Good, but very expensive.
Lot's of social events and networking events organized.
