The Role
The internship was very much enjoyable. The training at the begining gave you a good fundation to succeed and ensured you were comfortable during the internship. There were many opportunities to gain an insight into any part of the bank you wished as well as extra opportunities outside your role to develop yourself as a professional.
From the very outset of the internship I was treated with respect by anyone I met including my team, and any questions I had were happily answered. The work I was given to complete was important work which had real effects so gave you a sense of real value within your team and the bank.
The support available during the internship was very good. My line manager was always available if i need to ask anything at all, and if for some reason they were not available there would always be someone. Regular catch ups with HR ensured we were happy and had no queries.
Once you were settled in and all IT was set up there wasn’t a day where you had nothing to do. There was always something you could do and if you had nothing there were always opportunities to get involved in something else. Saying this everything was manageable although challenging.
Personally i was thrown into the deep end in terms of responsibility, which is exactly what i wanted. From my first assignment to my last, they all had real importance to the team. I also was involved in team projects and contributed to long term projects that will be implemented into the business one day.
The team i was placed in was not my comfort zone. i had never done this type of work before and it pushed me to gain new skills as well as enhancing others. The skills I have gained will help me in the future as it has given me a wider foundation of ability and opened a new way of looking at certain situations.
The Company
The general atmosphere was great in the workplace. Everybody was prepared to spare you some time if needed and everyone was happy to help. There was no hostility and everything was constructive and supportive. Colleagues wanted to get to know you so were more than happy to have a friendly chat.
The internship was very well organised throughout. From the training centre on the first two days to the last week everything was planned and ran smoothly. Regular intern events were planned and you received calendar invites with all necessary information. Communication to reviews and timings were always sent out way in advance.
I felt that Barclays was fully committed to investing in its interns. We had regular learning sessions with senior officers in the bank as well as development opportunities. Whether this was further learning specific to your team, or internship wide opportunities such as project work, there was a wealth of investment in the interns. We also had a personality profiling session which was interesting

Futur employment prospects with Barclays are very appealing with the vast array of opportunities available. This includes: experience in other areas of the bank; rotation opportunites; further investment in us in the form of further education and qualifications.
The Culture
There were weekly events organised for the interns which were social and good fun. There was also an end of internship celebration.
I commuted from home so there was no cost for living. Socialising costs varied some social events were completely cost free others required some c osts but everything was volutary and not compulsory.
The nightlife was good fun with a vast range of bars and restaurants.
There were lots of opportunities to get involved in activities outside of your role. This included project work with other interns which were good fun to collaborate. Also there was charity work available for you to help out with. If there was nothing available there were always opportunities for you to go and find something extra to do
