The Role
I have really enjoyed my time here; I was given lots of responsibility and enjoyed the team environment. Everyone was really friendly and they had a lot of time for me to help explain certain work or to catch up.
My colleagues valued my opinion on certain things; however for other projects I didn’t have the expertise to give valued advice.
I was given constant support from the resourcing team as I had previously built up relationships with them; hence I feel they had time for me. My manager didn’t always have time for me on a daily basis, and if he did it was a quick 10 minute chat. I would have valued my time here more if we were able to talk about how i was doing and my progress for longer more frequently.
At the beginning of the internship I had a lot of free time. I think this was based upon my manger not knowing what and how much work to give me. Throughout the internship my days have got busier, partly because of the nature of my role being tasks driven.
Towards the second half of my internship I was given a lot more responsibility, this including having projects end-to-end which I can take control of. For me this is a key motivator, therefore I would of liked to be given more responsibility, however I understand this is hard to establish when your relationship with your manager is fairly new.
The knowledge of the business and the excel skills I learnt will be beneficial to me if I am invited to come back on the Grad scheme, as these core sills will already be embedded. Being in a bank environment will help me with my last year at university, as I am studying Economics so I find this industry interesting.
The Company
ThThe office has been a nice place to work. It is a very busy place, but this is what I enjoy. The team is made up of a lovely group poof people, so it is a fun environment.
The internship was very well organised, we had multiple Learning Sessions within our area. We also had recruiter catch ups which was a great opportunity to tell the resourcing team how we were feeling and if there were any problems
I wish we would have had more excel training opportunities as this would of helped me move forward in the role quicker.
Travel loan
Very appealing, I would love to come to Barclays to work long term. It seems like a great place to work with so many opportunities.
The Culture
Not as much as I originally thought. We do have socials amongst the interns every Friday but this is something we organise ourselves. I would have liked to have done socials during the week with different activities.
The cost of socialising was quite high initially as going from living at home to then spending all day every day in London was a shock. Once I got into a routine, I felt that my daily spend was lower but still quite high.
The bars in Canary Wharf were so much fun; I look forward to discovering more. I wish I would have had this opportunity with my team more often.
Not a lot of opportunities were thrown at me. I wish there were more actives I could get involved in with either my team or with the Interns.
