The Role
I truly enjoyed the internship. We were given a number of opportunities to network and meet employees across the firm. We were also given a very comprehensive and structured training week in which I was able to increase my understanding in financial markets and products. The emplyees across the firm were very friendly and open to chat and the intern group itself was also great.
My team entrusted me with numerous responsibilities throughout my time with them. I was able to engage in value-adding work and develop a true understanding of their day to day role. I was also given a project to complete by the end of my rotation. This project required me to network across my division hence enabling me to really get to know my team and complete a project that will add value to them once I leave.
I was given a great amount of support throughout the programme. I met up with my manager weekly for a brief catch up on how I was getting on and the different responsibilities that I was managing. If in need of help it was very easy for me to pop over to my managers desk at any point.
I was moderately busy on a daily basis. Whenever a team member needed assistance with a task they would pop over and explain what needed to be done and I was always happy and ready to help. My mornings were always very productive and filled with different tasks. Around afternoon I would have completed most morning tasks and reports and so in the afternoon I would work on my project or organise shadowing sessions with other divisions across the bank. If not in a meeting or shadowing session I was around my team members taking some work off their hands.
I was given a great amount of responsibility throughout my internship. My team have various stakeholders and I was able to take on some tasks that involved me emailing and getting in touch with stakeholders directly. In the mornings I was also involved in a number of key BAU processes/reports.
The skills I have developed will definitely assist me in my degree to a great extent. I have been able to develop problem solving, analysis, investigation, attention to detail, communication and many more skills within my role. These are all core skills within the different modules in my degree as well as general life.
The Company
The atmosphere in the part of the office that I worked at was quiet. I did however have small discussions with those who worked around me occasionally. Many other interns would also pass my desk often hence we would also have regular conversations around my office area.
The overall internship was very well organised. Events were not all concentrated towards the beginning or middle or end of the internship. Instead they were well spread across the 10 weeks. The events, speaker sessions, CSR day, lunch and learn sessions were all very interesting and engaging
The firm offered a very sophisticated and personalised training. It was very practical and hands on training. We spent our first week learning about Financial Markets and Products in a classroom and then put that knowledge to work.
Flexi Time
Subsidised Canteen
Quite appealing.
The Culture
Yes. We often meet up on Friday’s after work for a social so it has been really nice and interesting to get to know everyone and each of their different backgrounds.
Very reasonable.
