The Role
The internship was fantastic, offering me the full opportunity to immerse myself in the two teams I joined for the 10 week programme, whilst also enabling me to freely explore other areas of the bank. Everyone I worked with was enthusiastic and open with sharing their knowledge and helping to develop the start of my career, which I definitely found very useful.
Whilst it could have been difficult to make a valuable input into the teams work while only working for such a short period of time at Lloyds, colleagues were definitely very good at first delegating tasks which I was capable of delivering on, then valuing such input afterwards. It can be a challenge to feel valued in such an intense learning experience however I think colleagues did their best to recognise the input I made.
Given that I was placed in two separate teams I had amazing support from both of my supervisors over the 10 weeks - helping me to develop both my technical ability and professional skills. Both were very open to guide me towards opportunities to learn and areas in which could be really beneficial for me to be involved in. Senior management were also very keen on supporting my time at the bank, which I found surprising given there indirect role in my internship.
I'd say that I was definitely busy enough to go through the day without being bored or nothing to do! Banking and Finance is obviously a very technical industry and therefore it was at first difficult to get involved in projects where I did not have the ability, which therefore made the job slightly less busy. Nonetheless as time progressed I was absolutely involved in a number of concurrent projects which kept me on my toes and busy throughout the day.
In my first of the two roles I had the opportunity to work in there was significantly less responsibility given to me by colleagues - mainly because of market regulations around undertaking particular activities and speaking to clients. There was therefore less chance for responsibility to be given in this instance. In the second role I was given significant responsibility for the the production or research and analysis which definitely bettered my understanding.
The training received was very technical in nature towards the banking industry as would be expected, therefore much of this will only indirectly impact my degree by giving contextual background. When considering beyond my degree, the training was 100% beneficial in positioning me in a better place to understand more about the industry. The skills I developed (teamwork, communication, presenting etc.) will undoubtedly help in all areas of my professional and educational career.
The Company
Very friendly with lots of conversation between colleagues and an open atmosphere to get involved.
The organisation within my roles was great, however the central management of the internship process was very disjointed. Apart from the career development series, which was very well organised, the internship was rather disjointed regarding requirements and administrative elements. This is definitely an area which could be improved upon, hence my low score.
Very much. There were significant opportunities to learn about the business and improve my skill set through structured presentations from people in the business and also more informal conversations about career development and suggestions. There were also online courses that could be completing to enhance understanding and gain a basic level of knowledge in preparation for more formal qualifications later in my career.

Very appealing - I would definitely work for the bank again.
The Culture
100% - the social environment as a result of their being many interns on the programme made it very easy to get involved and meet new people.
Expensive. Given that I worked in London this is hardly surprising and a given for any internship or job in the city. Whilst its challenging to find more cost effective ways to live and socialise, it is definitely not impossible, but I found it was not worth all the extra effort to do so.
Great atmsophere and diverse range of opportunities to enjoy the night!
Yes definitely. Again, given that the internship was located in London there is an unlimited range of activities on hand to get involved in. While these activities might be a little pricey that shouldn't be too big a restraint given the unique things available - particularly the quirky bars around the city and restaurants.
