The Role
Thoroughly enjoyed the internship. I was surprised by the amount of responsibility and trust I was given by my team, and their willingness to offer me tasks and entire projects to have complete ownership of. For 10 weeks of work, I have been astounded by how much I have single-handedly been able to achieve.
I feel really valued by my team. I am continuously praised for my work, and my team and commented many times how well I have integrated into the team, and how they are willing to give me projects with full responsibility and expect me to achieve them to a high standard.
I was given support whenever I asked for it, however I appreciated that I was also given tasks to complete autonomously, and expected to take full ownership of my projects. I liked this, because it felt that when I needed support it was there, but I never at any point felt patronized or "treated like an intern".
On a daily basis, I think my work load was very manageable. At times, I felt there were more tasks that I could take on, but then when I highlighted this my team were more than willing to provide me with additional work. I didn't struggle to complete tasks, and believe I completed these to a high quality within deadline.
I was given a huge amount of responsibility, taking complete ownership of the majority of my projects with little support unless I requested this. I appreciated this, because it gave me scope for flexibility and creativity, in order to put a personal "stamp" on these projects and say they were things that I solely achieved.
I think the biggest thing I have achieved is time management skills which will definitely help when juggling tasks and assignments back at University. As well as this, I think I have learnt to do much more for myself rather than relying on others, whether this be investigating context for issues arising, or tactical ways to solve a problem, and this will help when faced with difficult, or seemingly impossible, tasks at University.
The Company
I really enjoyed the office atmosphere. I liked the fact that people preferred to actually get up and talk to each other to discuss problems and how to solve them, rather than just via email. The environment is loud, and very collaborative, and I especially liked within our team that everyone would jump in with suggestions of how to fix a problem and become involved in a discussion to come to a joint conclusion.
I think it was well organized. Although sometimes it clashed with my workload, I enjoyed the fact that there was a lot of training available and continuous catch-ups with my managers, which made the internship feel a lot more structured and as a development tool, rather than simply being used to help with workload.
Personally, there wasn't a huge amount of investment specifically tailored to myself individually, however I think this would be difficult considering it has been a very short internship. The training provided to all interns/new starters has been thorough and very informative, however this was not specifically tailored.
Staff Sales/Staff Shop
Very appealing, I am keep to finish my degree and then return to the organization for a dynamic future career within the business/
The Culture
There was a good scene. I would have preferred for there to be more social interaction with different members of my team, however the social dynamic amongst interns has been great.
The cost of living was fairly high, but no more than I would have expected for London. It helped that my personal commute to work was walking distance which meant I had more disposable income, but I didn't find the cost of living to be extortionate.
Directly in the work area, there were little options for nightlife, however easy transport links meant it was quick to access central London for this.
There were some activities, however many were sports related and only starting to be organized as my internship was coming to an end.
