The Role
Had a great time - the people at Lloyds are fantastic and so are the other interns. Very senior managers are happy to sit with you and interested in your work and opinion.
Very, was always asked to complete work who always thanked me for every task completed.
Line manager was always happy to answer my questions. Across the intern group, most line managers were very busy and it's difficult for them to give you 1-on-1 support all the time. However no-one is going to hold your hand and guide you through the experience - you have to be proactive. I set my own goals, arranged my own reviews with my line manager etc. which ended up looking better than having lots of guidance
Constantly had projects on the go - was fairly quiet for first two weeks as I didn't have a laptop and the majority of the team (who aren't based in the same office) didn't realise I was there. After making myself known and proactively seeking work I have ended up working on a project for every team member.
A fair amount - was left to complete a lot of client impacting work including looking at repricing products. Was difficult with some projects as they require a lot of technical knowledge/ are NDA covered.
Not at all with my degree - I study humanities. Invaluable experience in terms of what office life is like, learning how to use excel and powerpoint very efficiently
The Company
Everyone is friendly and happy to talk to you - easy to have a chat and actually get to know people. Was hard with hot desking - ended up disrupting people by sitting in their usual desk.
Internship was okay - people within the stream had very varied experience depending on what stream they were placed in. 'Clients and Markets' - my role had nothing to do with either, which I was fairly disappointed about as I chose Lloyds above other banks for this reason. Should definitely change the name and be more transparent about likelihood of working in divisions. Also don't give you any divisional preference.
Had training throughout the internship - this would have been a lot more useful at the beginning as it became fairly irrelevant at the end when you were being trained in something you had to train yourself for. Had 'Professional Banker' training which is listed as a feature during application. Nothing exciting - just fancy regulatory training.
If the scheme stays the same and remains based in London for the 2 years I would stay with Lloyds. However think both of these things are changing based off of questions asked in interviews
The Culture
Good - everyone was really friendly. However there was quite a large divide between scholars and interns - scholars were not all particularly welcoming to interns at first, this is something that HR should look into managing
It's central London...
Its central London...
Not really, but maybe I wasn't looking in the right places. Doesn't seem like interns can join external work activities however
