The Role
Very much so. There is some times a stereo type that an internship will involve basic tasks and much of these tasks will be based around ordering food and or doing coffee runs etc. I have not found this to be the case in this internship as I was given quite a bit of responsibility from very early on.
Very much so. Though colleagues may some times appear very busy they are actually very nice and will help you out should you need help. In my first few weeks in particular but also throughout the programme they made an effort to coach me so that I could make contributions to the team. Also they gave me more and more responsibility as the programme progressed which made me feel valued.
For a start the resourcing team will set up training so that there is some structure to the process but you will probably learn more on the job. I found that my supervision were very happy to spend time helping me, especially early on in the programme. Also they were of course open to questions through out the process.
This varies but actually I think the degree to which you are busy is some what dependent on how pro active you are as an individual. If you are on the programme you can take initiative to go to the various external events that crop up or better yet, do some networking and create some extra stuff to put in your schedule - this is probably quite a good thing to do in terms of reviews also, none of my team had an issue with this,
Surprisingly quite a lot. I was not sure what to expect going in but I tried my best to get up to speed with every thing so that I could make contributions to the team. I got given smaller tasks to begin with but as I grew in confidence and proved my self a bit I was given more responsibility.
Well my degree actually does not have any overlap with the work I was doing so I was coming in as a blank slate if you like. So this will not really help in my degree as they are not related at all. However the training was obviously good for the job because I have gained a lot of knowledge and also experience - it will help beyond if I choose to take a career path aligned to my internship.
The Company
The internship programme has some things organised into it and other bits depend on your team. At the start there is training for the whole cohort before you are placed in to your team. After that the organisation depends on the team you are in but mine was fairly organised and I had work to do. There are also events that resourcing will put on for you throughout the internship.
At the start of the internship the entire cohort of interns will receive training for two days, some other functions will get more but this depends on what area you are in. After that there is mandatory training which everyone must do online and is usually done in your first week or so. After this the training and development is more on the job so is related to the team you are in but for me I learned quite a lot.

The prospects are very appealing because as an intern you will be asked if you wish to be considered for the graduate scheme which is usually in advance of the formal application cycle opening. If you stay on the graduate scheme you will be starting your career and likely have opportunity to progress within the firm. Whether or not you are made an offer depends on your performance.
The Culture
The head quarters are based in Canary Wharf London so if you have not spent time in the city and are coming from elsewhere in the country you might find that the costs of living is quite high compared to what you usually see. If you intend to stay near the firm for the summer you will have to budget as rent is quite high. Also socialising will cost more than you are used to. Having said that you are compensated well.
