The Role
The internship was great, loads of new information, I was always kept busy, loads of interesting projects. There could have been more socialising events and maybe some charity fundraising together organised by the bank.
My team was great, didn't make me fetch any coffees or anything :) Everyone was very friendly and tried to make me feel included
My Line manager was very supportive and always available to help.
Never bored. There was always something to work on, especially a couple of weeks in when the projects piled up.
Enough to feel the pressure and know I need to know get things done but not to an extent where the bank would burn down if I didn't
I definitely developed my Excel skills, got more comfortable with email and phone communications,
The Company
My team and floor were very friendly and laid back, the surroundings were bright and cheerful. The inflatable cactus definitely added to the vibe :) The rest of the floors were quite dark and moody looking though. My team also were coming in mostly 5 days a week, but generally the rest of the office looked rather deserted. There were some events as well, opportunities to be silly and compete etc
It was ok? I feel I was quite lucky as I know many other interns I spoke to had nothing to do, so my opinion is slightly influenced by that. I feel like my Line Manager knows how much and what kind of work I should be given and I had everything I needed (laptop, pass etc).
I guess they mostly invested their time, as I am aware that answering all my questions must have taken up more time than doing something themselves. Otherwise, there weren't any particular training sessions or similar
Quite. Lloyds is massive and I know there are many opportunities to develop. The work life balance is also good. But also I am aware it pays slightly less than other banks for the same positions (especially internships, the difference there is significant) and it doesn't offer many opportunities to travel or work abroad.
The Culture
There was barely anything, The only thing that saved it was some leaving parties, otherwise, there was maybe one networking event? And the induction?.. My team organised a few lunches together, so I consider myself luckier than all the other interns I've spoken to.
London. What else is there to say. Everything is borderline unaffordable. As I was living in London, my accommodation costs weren't covered and this internship paid less than my normal summer job in a restaurant, plus the restaurant job provided me with food and there were less transport costs. I think students doing this internship in London should get some sort of extra allowance as the travel costs etc really build up.
London, so of course there are many choices for Nightlife. Except that the office had no events so I don't think anyone really took advantage of it.
There were the 2 leaving parties. And I've done fundraising outside of the office? Though that was literally organised ourselves and was more needed to raise funds as opposed to for fun
