The Role
The internship was definitely a good experience, the social aspect in a professional environment was pleasant and enjoyable. The team I was placed in and the people I have met during my time here have been really helpful, friendly and accommodating. The projects I was given to manage and own were interactive and broad so I always had things to do.
Everyone treated me fairly and kindly- it may have been awkward at first trying to adjust with a team that have known each other for very long but it wasn't difficult to approach them or have a laugh with them. I have met a lot of different people across the LBG streams and all have been pleasant - I have been given responsibility and respected as a member of the team. During team meetings my colleagues would ask for my opinion or allow me to discuss whatever I wanted even though I never really had much to say but being given the option to discuss what I'm working on was really reassuring.
My line manager has been an absolute pleasure to work with. Extremely supportive and encouraging, would try to have weekly one to one meetings to discuss what I am working on and his input on my work. He would let me get on with my work independently but if I had any queries regarding anything that I was working on it was really easy to contact him.
It was a bit balanced- some days I may have been quite bored or quite busy but most days there was the right balance between how much work I had to do and how much free time I had to take on other tasks and shadowing other departments. I always had work to do, my projects were very much independently managed so it mainly consisted of me maintaining my work load and organising what to do and when to do it. The time scale of the projects I was working on were through the duration of the internship and then alongside this I was given other projects to work on which had a shorter deadline.
I was given a big responsibility which managed to be a project which a lot of Senior management and directors were quite passionate about changing. My big project involved exposure to a lot of senior management and directors to get their opinions on what I've been working on and trying to make changes. A lot of the work I have been working on will be used to inform colleagues on what my department do and key policies to LBG.
Communication skills and being able to communicate with senior people during networking events is extremely transferrable in all aspects of my future career. I've learn a lot of business management skills and team management skills during my placement where I have been involved in producing trend analysis, dashboards and skills matrix to help manage the teams progress and see how to manage the business side of things. I have becoming more proficient in software's like excel, SharePoint, HIVE, etc.
The Company
It is relatively quiet on most days because everyone is genuinely busy with work which was very hard to adjust to but as my workload started picking up the atmosphere fluctuated and there were days where it gets quite dull and days where it is loud and everyone's a bit more chilled. General atmosphere depends on the day, general trend was near the end of the week it got a bit more livelier whereas the beginning of the week it was slightly dull.
Well organised, my team set up activities for me to do during my 10 weeks but even the group that organise the internship made sure there were events running weekly that interns could attend and be a part of to broaden our experience during the internship. There were meetings, networking events, WebEx calls and several different opportunities to meet more interns and professionals to get an idea of what other opportunities are available in the organisations.
A lot of personal training and development- had the opportunity to do lots of online training courses and had a fair bit of mandatory training to do. The training opportunities were endless with weekly WebEx calls regarding different areas of the bank. Colleagues were also very approachable in booking some time to undertake training regarding different softwares I needed to use for my projects. Was able to travel to different offices to undertake training and develop my skills.

I have an opportunity to undertake another internship with the organisation which will give me a chance to discover another area within the Bank. They do recruit students for their graduate scheme after the internship which is dependent on the impression you have left on the team you have worked with and how you perform in an interview and presentation. They are really keen on recruiting graduates and really do value the interns that work for them.
The Culture
Yes, London placement- provided everyone with accommodation so all interns were living together so it was really easy to socialise with a fair few interns / scholars. There were a lot of events/socials where we could meet other interns. Made a lot of friends / networks that I can connect with after my internship. Graduates in the organisation have also arranged lots of socials for students to take part in which has been fun.
Quite expensive to socialise in London but it depends on your budgeting. However in terms of living, accommodation was paid for- close to work place so able to walk if you preferred and accommodation included cleaning every week. Any other means of travelling would need to be funded by yourself which is a shame for those that needed to commute a fair or disliked walking. Lots of good transport link which made it very convenient for travel.
Lots of things to do- lots of shops and places to dine in and socialise. Safe neighbourhood with lots of big organisations based around the place. Lots of good transport link which made it very convenient fir travel. The area was always busy as people would finish work at different times; evening times you'd see pubs and diners start to get full so social life was pretty good.
No acitivities were organised to take part in after work. Unless their was a team social which would happen outside work or a charity social planned by other interns, scholars or colleagues. Had the evening to plan activities for yourself and have fun- there were a lot of things to do around the area and just generally exploring the area.
