The Role
It was a really good internship. You work as part of a team completing tasks that are useful to the company. You also get to learn a lot and the managers give you a lot of their time. The atmosphere was super friendly and there are a lot of sports and activities organised.
Very quickly I felt a part of the team that I was put into. They obviously valued my work and were keen for me to produce something that was useful to them. This was the case right up the management line, and my ideas were presented and considered by lots of people.
The manager is given lots of time to just support and guide you. You'll have to organise yourself and you'll learn to run a project but my mentor was always one desk away to ask questions of when I needed advice. Overall it was all good. Recruitment and HR were helpful as were IT.
On a daily basis I was pretty busy but it wasn't too bad. The hours are flexible but standard is 9 till 5:30 with an hour's lunch. I sometimes left early if I needed to do something or came in a little late if I needed to put on a wash. I took longer lunches when I was playing sport. Theyre happy for you to do these as long as you're productive with your time. Nicely busy.
I was working on products that will be used by the team in the future. The changes I made were significant and I was trusted to make the right decisions on how to improve these products. As the internship went on I started to manage my projects a little more and I was afforded more responsibility.
Not sure they'll help in my degree. I got a lot of computing skills in general and specifically skills in coding. The main job is kind of coding, although a lot of the time is planning what to code and researching what changes need to be made. Subsequently I also gained organisational and planning skills that will be useful.

It was a chilled atmosphere but fairly professional. Lots of sports and games organised as well. There was a nerf gun war in the office one day.
