The Role
I really enjoyed the internship. The working culture at Barclays was great and we were always encouraged to get out and meet new people which was good. The other interns were all really nice as well and that helped. The work was challenging but interesting , and there was a lot of support available if needed.
I felt very valued by my colleagues. Immediately felt like part of the team. Every member of the team had a lot of time for me, and were always very eager to help out when I had questions. Outside of the team, we had the opportunity to meet with senior people within the bank and had a presentation from the CEO – which shows the bank cares about us interns.
Support from manager was good on the whole – the main issue being how busy they are. The mid and final appraisals however gave them a chance to offer a lot of constructive feedback one to one. Support from the wider team was excellent, and I always felt I had someone to offer me guidance if needed.
There were busy and not busy days. I had longer term projects to work on but occasionally had to wait until a team member was free to discuss next steps in a project for example. The opportunity to shadow people was there however and I filled a lot of my spare time doing this.
I learnt some very specific technical skills that will be useful if I work in this line of work in the future. In terms of presenting myself and speaking to people I learnt a lot - and this will be very useful going forward. My excel and coding skills came a long way and this will be useful to my degree.
The Company
Most people were really approachable and nice. Atmosphere was good - seemed like people were happy to work there.

Very. The internship is very much geared to converting interns on to a grad scheme.
The Culture
It is what you make of it - we had a couple of planned socials which were good.
It's standard for London.
Canary Wharf is great for after work drinks.
The citizenship day allowed us to do some charitable work.
