The Role
Very much, was very useful for discovering more about the industry from a different perspective
Very much so, was given a lot of responsibility and tasked with seeing a project through from beginning to end.
Some managers were more helpful than others.
Fluctuated depending on the project work required. First couple of weeks weren't very busy, however as internship progressed was given more responsibility to see projects through.
A lot. I really enjoyed the breadth of work I was given, and was very much treated like one of the team. I was given the same work as everyone else, with only very few "interny" types of projects from my manager at the very start for them to gauge how I could cope with work.
Unparalleled experience of working in an office, however, given my course at university is not as aligned to the financial industry in general, and the internship is certainly geared more so towards those with degrees in finance/business/economics/maths, felt left out on occasion.
The Company
Depends where you were in the building. In some places, the office was very fast paced, heads down environment, which I prefer. In others, the office seemed half empty and very relaxed, with people leaving early and coming in late. But that would be expected everywhere.
Very well organised. Would have "learning lunches" every week to learn about different areas of the business which was very useful. However, the chances for rotating out of your team were very slim, and usually self-organised and only for a day or half-day, which is not enough time to gauge how other teams/departments are run and to join in on their day to day work.
Had Kaplan personality training and was able to attend "arena" sessions, where talks were held on everything from the future of FinTech to BREXIT.
Subsidised/Company Gym
Quite appealing. Offer a very competitive salary an a structured graduate scheme.
The Culture
Met up most weeks for drinks etc.
As it's in London, relatively high, but the experience is worth it.
As the offices are based in Canary Wharf, there was the opportunity to choose to go out to a range of entertainment/bars/pubs if you so wished.
Many. Was treated like a regular member of the organisation, and as such could join any of the FCA clubs/sports teams/events (like theatre, riverboat cruise etc)
