The Role
Roke is a very comfortable environment surrounded by nice grounds. The supervisors are approachable
I was placed on a group project and therefore felt like any other member of the team - attending daily meetings and demos, and felt comfortable making suggestions/contributing.
There was always work to do on our project and so I was kept busy every day. There were only a few days where I felt there was a time pressure e.g. with upcoming demos
I was able to contribute and encouraged to try to solve issues outside of my current skills.
I learnt a lot about web development and gained experience in some practical frameworks which are used by many other companies.
The Company
The office is relaxed but focused. I felt I could approach my supervisors if I had any questions. The surrounding area is very nice for walks at lunch, definitely a rare perk to the work environment.
There were 9 interns overall and so there was a comfortable group atmosphere. We were inducted well on the first couple of days and so I felt I knew where everything was/where to go for help. The team I was working in was very inclusive and happy to help with queries. Other interns on the program had solo projects and seemed to get less assistance/supervision though.
I got the opportunity to learn web development using modern frameworks and so I felt I've profited a lot from the experience.

They seem to have an established graduate program and are hiring quite large numbers each year, so I expect there are good prospects for employment post-graduation.
The Culture
Roke has its own on-site bar and there are frequently people playing tennis/rounders. The social aspect surprised me as being very good. There were 9 interns and we all got to know each other well which was an added bonus.
Southampton is probably the best bet for accommodation. Uni halls can probably be found for £100-£160/week (Wessex Lane/Liberty Point are good bets).
Romsey is very quiet but most people travelled from Southampton/surrounding areas so was good.
A fair few opportunities to play sports or take part in lunchtime clubs.
