The Role
It was fairly enjoyable. The people were extremely friendly and turned otherwise only averagely interesting work into something more.
I felt like the work I was doing was quite valuable and appreciated, but I'm unsure just how much it will be used in the future as anything other than an extra source of information.
My supervisor was brilliant. When I expressed interests in other parts of the company (I joined this expecting to do technical work, and improve those skills, but ended up in consulting) he was very good in arranging meetings with the right people. Could arrange support whenever I felt like I would benefit from it.
The internship felt really unorganized to begin with; my first few weeks were very much 'go research this and that'll do for 3 or 4 days'. Clearly here I wasn't very busy and was quite bored. When I spoke to my supervisor about this he tried to arrange more stuff to do. About 4 weeks in (in to an 8 week internship) we got put on another project which kept us busier.
We were 100% responsible for managing our own time and work, but no responsibilities otherwise.
I feel like I honed my soft skills, but learnt very little else. May help in further work, if I decide to pursue consulting.
The Company
Generally really nice. the people were great and everyone was consistently looking for an excuse for treats. Strong team spirit in inter-office rounders too.
Unorganized to begin with, felt as if they didn't actually have a project for us. And it was certainly not a project tailored to what we'd said our interests were. However, as time went on they found more for us to do. The buddy system was good, and we did have a good desk set-up from day one.
Joined a cyber skills lunch time club on Thursdays which was interesting, but probably aimed at too high a level for me. No actual training was given.

I'm not massively drawn to Roke; the work I was doing wasn't what I was interested in - I was in placed in a consulting role and was looking for something more technical. I think the other work they do could be interesting, however the location is wrong for me at this time. Too quiet.
The Culture
The other 8 interns were good fun. We had parties and cinema trips in Southampton.
Accommodation relatively cheap, food fairly cheap. 3.35 return from Southampton everyday to work. Relatively good.
Lots of clubs, pubs, restaurants in Southampton. Not so much in Romsey. Much quieter in Romsey.
Nothing with office mates. Every Friday a bar opens up at the cricket pavilion though. Can have a pint at lunch there.
