The Role
I worked at Roke Manor last summer within Technical Business Consultancy. The project I was given allowed me to learn a range of technical and soft skills while still being very interesting. Furthermore, As past of my placement I was also given the opportunity to attend two different conferences. The work at Roke is varied and gives you exposure to many different skillsets.
Everyone I worked with was extremely approachable and willing to help. This included tasks related to my project and any other issues I had.
My supervisor gave me the right level of guidance so I did not feel like I was being micro managed or completely lost with no direction
Every day I would be busy, however, not to the point where I was stressed or being overworked.
I was given complete control over the development of my project and was given a leading role in delivering a workshop at one of the conferences.
Learned a variety of technical skills, however the most useful skills I acquired where the communication and problem structuring elements I learned during my placement.
The Company
Fairly relaxed, however, there were plenty of opportunities to get involved with Roke social activities like inter-business area rounders.
Very well organised.
They sent me two conferences, and the offered a 6-month placement to me.
