The Role
The placement was really enjoyable however it was very slow. I worked in Commercial Banking. The culture at Lloyds is not particularly conducive to hard work. It is good for work-life balance but a bit deflating if you expected a busy summer. I had fun and learnt a few things but not very much. Wouldn't work here permanently unless you wanted an easy life.
The colleagues lacked experience with basic Excel/VBA so I felt VERY valued as I had these skills. It was a bit disappointing that my seniors did not have these basic skills, or even an understanding of these basic skills. I worked in Commercial Banking. My line manager was always around so it was pretty easy to talk to him. His line manager was also around often so we had quite a bit of exposure. I had the opportunity to present to MDs at various stages which was quite nice. I worked in Commercial Banking. The culture at Lloyds is not particularly conducive to hard work. I gave myself a lot of work and that is why I was busy. I think you could quite easily get away with not doing very much work at all. You can easily work 9-5 and be okay. I usually worked 8-9. I was given a lot of responsibility because the skill-set of the workforce is easy to match meaning I could get on with a lot. I worked in Commercial Banking. Literally developed no skills. I knew advanced Excel, VBA, PPT before I came and I ended up teaching these skills to other people who were not up-to-date. I wanted to gain some commercial awareness via the bank but I feel like there wasn't much opportunity to learn, which is unfortunate. I worked in Commercial Banking. It was very well-organised - there was an induction day and I met my line manager and his line manager before I started. I worked in Commercial Banking. Flexi Time
Working from home
Not appealing at all. I'm not interested in working for them as an actual employee. Working as a graduate might be appealing as you get an easy job for the first two years out of university. However, only on the Clients and Markets scheme as on the other schemes you have to move around the country a lot which can be very annoying.
The Culture
It was a bit boring. All of the interns live together which can be a bit overwhelming but if you live out then you're completely out of touch. There are some events every now and then and some drinks events. Also, the teams go out quite a bit if that's your scene.
About £220 a week,
London so great.
Not really.
