The Role
Overall the experience was enjoyable, it took a fair amount of time to get stuck in and provided with sufficient work but once that happened the work was interesting and challenging.
It took a long time to gain the respect, trust from other team members and thus the responsibility to carry out significant peaces of work, however once this was earned I felt I became a valued colleague.
Management were sometimes a bit too busy to deal with interns, however typically when you got their time they were useful and engaging.
Went from being very very quiet in the first half to very very busy. in the second. However the busy provided an excellent challenge
Ultimately I was given a lot of responsibility and opportunity to deliver features on the project I was working on.
The internship definitely provided the opportunity to enhance a number of skills, both technically and soft skills. This will no doubt be useful on completion of university and entering the working world proper.
The Company
The office atmosphere was good, everyone was fairly hard working but sociable too.
The internship wasn't always the best organised, with individual managers being responsible for the work given to each intern could lead to situations where people did not have enough to do. The range of talks and sessions offered by HR in the area were exceptional.
There were no specific learning opportunities however, through daily work there was a lot of opportunity to pick up new skills and enhanced existing ones.
It's a large organisation with a lot of opportunity so I would definitely give it serious consideration if I were to be offered a role.
The Culture
Yes there was plenty of opportunity to socialise and the interns were all a fairly sociable bunch.
It's London, so living and socialising are expensive as is to be expected.
