The Role
I had a fantastic line manager who pushed me and encouraged me to learn as much as possible. It was irritating at first, having to sit at the desk and read but by the end of the 10 weeks it all came together and I delivered a great presentation.
My colleagues were nice and friendly. Despite the age gap I felt extremely welcome and comfortable. I went out for drinks with them a lot and we bonded which was nice. I did not feel excluded at any point during my internship.
I am very happy with the amount of support and guidance I received. I also networked well with my buddy and the other grad in my office.
I had a good amount of work to do. The key thing is to ask and push for work. I did so and this allowed me to learn more as I got work from a lot of people in my office.
I was given a presentation that a lot of senior colleagues came to see. I felt valued especially after they completed my knowledge on the topic. Looking back this was a good amount of responsibility. It was nice to see experienced members of staff learn something from me.
I learned how to speak to people of all ages, and network. my line manager was also very honest with me and was constantly giving me feedback. This was great as I learnt how to accept feedback and work on it. My professional skills improved, I learnt how to be on time, be reliable and more.
The Company
Relaxed, casual and welcoming.
It was well organised nothing particularly went wrong and I am not displeased with anything.
Giving me a 10 week internship in my opinion is a huge investment and the fact it was paid was excellent.
Flexi Time
Above 25 days holiday
At the moment RBS is going through a lot of change and a lot of jobs are being cut. This made me a bit apprehensive as it may be hard to roll of the graduate scheme and on to a permanent role. However, the current grads seem to be finding their feet and slowly settling into permanent roles so I will not let this stop me from taking the grad scheme if I am offered it.
The Culture
HR organised good social events for us. They were great and much appreciated.
Really high, living in London is hard financially.
I did not experience this so unfortunately cannot comment. A lot of other interns did enjoy the night life though.
