The Role
I thoroughly enjoyed my placement with Atkins. It gave me a good insight into what an Engineering Geologist does. I enjoyed working with other people on some very interesting projects.
I did feel valued by my colleagues, but understood my place as a summer placement student.
My line manager/supervisor would regular check up on me, to see how I was doing or needed any help. My line manager and colleagues were more than happy to help me if asked.
When I was given a project to do, I was busy during the day. However, on occasions there was little work available to do especially as a summer student.
I was given a good amount of responsibility, with a few tasks having a deadline that had to be met.
The skills I have gained with this placement will help me enormously going into my second year at university. I came into this placement unsure on whether this is the career for me, however I am now certain that this is the career I will pursue after university.
The Company
It was a chilled working environment, where everyone could get on with work in a stress free office.
The work placement was very well set up,
Atkins trained me up on a few software's that they regularly use.
Flexi Time
Subsidised Canteen
Financial Bonus
They are very appealing as Atkins seem keen on employing university graduates.
The Culture
Yes all the placement students would regularly talk to see how everyone is getting on. Would always go to the pub on Friday.
Around where I work it is very expensive to live or stay for a short period. Socialising can be expensive around London but that's expected.
I never experience the nightlife in the area I worked, as I lived 2 hours away.
There were a lot of activities. There a few sports groups you can get involved in.
