The Role
The Internship was a great experience. Had the opportunity to get a broad exposure to the different desks in my division. The internship was very well organized from HRs side, and they made sure to set up many opportunities for networking events. My colleagues were very nice and were glad to answer questions.
I felt very much appreciated. People took the time to answer questions, and even encouraged me to ask questions. The people in my division genuinely appreciated the work I performed and the tasks were adding actual value to the division as well as the bank. While there is a very professional tone from HRs side, working in the divisions are more relaxed.
I was given a lot of support from the AVPs on my desk. My MD was very busy, but whenever he had time to sit down with me, he did. Appreciated the support and guidance from the AVPs, and they did a great job of teaching me the business. Likewise people on other desks were very approachable, and were happy to give you insight into their business.
I was fairly busy. The hours were typically 8-7, and only had to stay in the office later than 8 for a few times. In the first few weeks I did a lot of daily reporting and signing off risk, and after that I spent a lot of time on my internship project. Additionally, there were many meetings with teams, telepresence, so definitely had enough to do.
I was given a fair amount of responsibility. After a few weeks I was sending out daily reports to senior management by myself. Additionally I talked to senior people regarding my project from both Risk, Trading and Research. Whenever I did work for senior people, I would usually have one of the AVPs look through it before hand.
I could definitely apply a lot of knowledge from financial courses in my daily work. As I was sitting on a Mortgages & Securitized Products desk, I doubt I will be able to use this as part of my degree in terms of further courses, but I might be able to use it in my Master's thesis. The organized training was fairly general and basic.
The Company
Working in Risk, the atmosphere was informal, yet professional. There were a lot of young employees, which made it easy to talk about weekend plans or sports, while also going out for beers throughout the week. However, I did miss a sense of more urgency in the deliveries and the pace at the office.
The internship was extremely well structured. The first week was an introduction week, where we were told how the whole process would be like. We were sent meeting planners for all events during the internship, and HR did a great job structuring the whole programme. This was a really big plus.
The company invested a lot in the whole program. We had weekly learning sessions, which were interesting but also very general as they were for all interns. We had weekly telepresence calls with senior risk executives as well, which were a great way to hear about the company and receiving career advice.

I cant really comment as we will get to know next week, whether we have received an offer or not. Historically acceptance rates have been good to my understanding, however Brexit might present to be an obstacle.
The Culture
There was definitely a good social scene amongst the interns. In risk we were only four, but we frequently went out for drinks and dinners. Considering that we were competing for positions, I was positively surprised by the good social scene. It was an important part of the experience to have a good relationship with the fellow interns
The internship was in London, so it was quite expensive, However, I lived in Claredale House which had a reasonable rent and was close to the City. Socialising in London is expensive, however there were many events organised by the company. The cost of socialising should not be a cause of concern regarding seeking a position at BAML.
Lived in London, so there were plenty of opportunities to go out. Frequently went out for drinks after work with other interns or full time employees.
Yes, in the first week we did a voluntary event.
