The Role
I thoroughly enjoyed my internship. I was given very interesting work that would be used when I left. I also had the opportunity to travel throughout the country, attending events and talks whilst also re[presenting Barclays. Everyone I worked with was extremely welcoming and made time for me, even senior management which I really appreciated.
I felt very valued by my colleagues. Each colleague was very generous with their time and made the effort to interact with me, which therefore in itself made me feel valued. I was given real responsibility from the first day to get my teeth stuck into as many projects as I wanted to.
My line manager was truly exceptional. I could not have expected much more. We had regular meetings and she would always offer encouragement and check on my progress.
I had a constant work flow throughout the internship. At no point was I particularly inundated with work, nor was I ever bored at work. I was always kept busy and had the option of doing more work if I was able to do so.
I was given a considerable amount of responsibility. A lot of the work I did was internally focused, so therefore I was possibly given more responsibility than other interns. I honestly feel that it does make sense for interns to have limited responsibility.
I did the internship after I graduated from university, so this is not really applicable.
The Company
Great atmosphere.
I believe it was well organised to an extent. As Barclays is constantly evolving as an organisation, I appreciate it is difficult for organised plans to be put in place and then followed.
To a great extent.

Working from home
Very appealing.
The Culture
Yes, interns mixed on a regular basis. We had various nights out and also events after work such as going to the cricket. Within my team there was also a strong social scene, and I went over to colleagues for dinner after work every few weeks.
Very expensive to be honest. But this is just London, and not Barclays specifically. All the events that Barclays put on were free.
Yes.
Not really.
