    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • The internship was very enjoyable and a great insight into the biggest retail bank in the country. From the offset, I had the opportunity to work with individuals from all around the company. The opportunity to gain responsibility for work was apparent from the start and that was very exciting.

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • I felt valued from the start. My team wanted to get me involved in as many things as possible which meant that I can begin to have an impact from the very beginning. In my first week, I was given a project which I had to complete before I finish and present to senior management.

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • Even though everyone is really busy, I always felt comfortable taping people on the shoulder and asking for help/ answers to any questions I may have. I had a great experience because both my line manager and senior manager were extremely supportive and helped me in times when I needed them most. They had loads of trust in me from the offset which meant that I was able to perform at a very high level.

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • This really varied from time to time. There were times when I was less busy which gave me time to reflect on how the internship is going whereas other times I would be extremely busy, working under tight deadlines. The key is to manage your time and priorities. Of course the better you are, the more work you'll get.

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • Loads! The team treated me like a normal employee so I was given just as much responsibility as them. It was quite frightening at first because you want to make a good impression but I feel like if you really want to make the most of this internship, it is essential to take on as much as you can and just try your hardest.

    5/5

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • Even though some of the topics I learnt here are not directly relevant to my degree, the skills I gained will help me for the rest of my life. By being exposed to so many people, my ability to communicate and build relationships quickly has thoroughly improved. I also never knew how important your PowerPoint skills are before I got here. This was a real struggle at the start as my slides would need to get reviewed quite a few times before they are used in presentations where towards the end I was responsible for putting together entire presentations by myself.

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • Very relaxed even though people were working very hard!

    4/5

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • Even though I was my line managers first intern, she made the process extremely easy for me. She organised my laptop and work phone before my first day, which meant that I can start working from the offset.

    4/5

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • Not a lot of opportunities to develop outside of the role. There are some training courses but they never tend to be very useful!

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • Working from home

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • It was for people who had to move down to London and live in the accommodation. It was made harder for people living at home.

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • London prices.
