The Role
At the time of writing I have completed 8 weeks of my internship and have thoroughly enjoyed every day and every challenge. The only reason I have not given a score of 10 is because there have been a couple of days (albeit anomalous) in which the workload slowed down. However it is summer so I understood why it was becoming less busy - thus I was proactive by completing my mandatory training.
Since day one I have been given support from my team and wider peers. This is in both cases where I have approached someone, or a colleague coming over to my desk to check in on me. My team were also very keen to get me involved in stuff outside of work which is always cool.
My line manager has been extremely supportive and we had regular catch ups to discuss how I am doing and how I can push myself to improve. My LM is also very open to answering the questions I have (work-related); and any personal issues I have.
I feel like there is always something to do - it's just a small matter of asking your team for work, which I have done. I have also had long-term projects to work on, so if things quieten down then you can always work on these.
My LM said in our first meeting he will treat me like an associate and this reflected some of the work he gave me. I was able to complete multiple credit papers, go out to client offices and meet with respective Financial Directors' and Group Treasury teams of FTSE 250 companies. I was also responsible for producing summary reports for prospective clients and sat in on meetings with existing ones.
Although I have had other jobs, this feels like my first real office job, thus I have developed skills which I hope to transfer onto the graduate scheme at LBG. However if I am unsuccessful in this route then I will take the training and experiences on a day-to-day basis into my next role to ensure these 10 weeks were a platform for a career in banking.
The Company
There was always a good vibe and the atmosphere actually caught me by surprise. The atmosphere I anticipated was very wrong and it has been great to work in an environment where the team knuckle down and get work done when deadlines approach - but always have a laugh too. As an intern in the IRE team, it has also been sweet that it's very much a young team and I was able to draw from their experiences from their early days in the office. Those slightly senior were also very welcoming and I was able to hear about their experiences through various catch ups.
In comparison to other interns I believe my first couple of weeks were a lot more organised. However I do believe programmes we need throughout the internship should be arranged in advance of us starting as being given access can take between a day and a week.
First and foremost, LBG are great that they have provided me with accommodation. In terms of my training and development it has been insightful to be able to complete online training, other training sessions from colleagues more senior, secondments, bloomberg; EPC+, etc. and the bank covering expenses when going out of London to travel to client offices.

The graduate scheme seems extremely appealing and is a position I am motivated to secure. Promotional opportunities also exist - within the team I have interned in anyway - as you can go from an analyst to associate; to associate director; relationship manager, etc.
The Culture
Yes - interns would usually set up drinks, sometimes with the graduates too. Where the interns stay we also go out on weekends or for drinks/meals after work.
As previously highlighted, LBG covered accommodation costs and socialising within this accommodation was good. However you can't avoid all expenses when working in London and food & drinks are expensive. There is also the tube cost - although you can save money by walking as it is not extremely far.
Went home most weekends so n/a.
Yes - I was invited to play football with my team; and there were also other activities I was invited to. The popularity of the charity events also opened up various other opportunities to get involved in activities.
