The Role
The internship was far more enjoyable than imagined. Whilst working in a professional environment is intimidating for a student with little experience of this, every member of staff were friendly and welcoming which really made the internship. The 'people culture' within EY is highly noticeable and is definitely a reason anyone should consider working with EY.
Every college I worked with was friendly and approachable and I received better treatment as an intern than I expected. It is noticeable however, that you are given the tasks they do not enjoy as much but these are the important base pieces of work that has to be done at the beginning of every project and knowing this does make the less interesting pieces of work better. Colleagues invite interns out for lunch and were always chatty and available for any questions at all times - even when busy.
Management and supervisors will make time for you if you ask politely and show engagement and interest in the work, even when they are busy.
This varied - some days I was non stop and other days I had to ask for more work which meant that work was always provided.
A good amount of responsibility, I was lucky enough to attend several client meetings as well as present a tax technical update to a client.
The training I received will help me as I would like to work within the service line I interned in and hopefully within EY. It would probably also help someone if they are studying accounting or economics at university however, my course does not cover this!
The Company
Good atmosphere where employees were satisfied with work and not complaining.
The internship could have been more organised, the first couple of days of induction I was assigned to was not relevant to my service line and the people hosting could thereby not answer my service line specific questions. These questions were, however, answered when I joined my team but it would have been nicer to be more service line specific from the beginning. There was only intern events on the first and last day of the internship but it would have been nicer to have events throughout the internship so that we could all get to know each other a bit better.
Whenever I asked for help, I was given help no matter how senior the staff were. I felt like this really showed that EY do invest in their people and will dedicate time to those they want to succeed and because of this, I made progress faster than I would have if I was left to figure things out by myself.
Very appealing, thoroughly enjoyed the internship.
The Culture
Colleagues did get on well and there were social events within the whole team to attend during the internship.
Depends what you are used to, if you live in London the prices are normal if not, do expect London prices for travel and living.
Lots of bars around the London office.
The team did have socials outside of work such as Bounce and Flight Club as well as cricket and football.
