The Role
Any negative preconceptions I had about banking were quickly put to rest: I couldn't have asked for a nicer working environment. The work was interesting and I was constantly learning both technical skills and industry specific knowledge
Everyone in my team made a concerted effort to involve me not only in projects, but in social activities too. Even though we're only here for 2 months, they really make an effort to make you feel like you're part of the team
There was a scheduled mid-term feedback and I regularly received feedback on my work. Additionally, whenever they had time, people would take time to explain concepts to me in order to ensure that I was learning as much as possible
Very busy - there was never a moment where I had nothing to do. No-one was ever "too busy" to allocate work for me to do
As time went on , I was given an increasing amount of responsibility. In the last 2 weeks, I was working on an IPO without an analyst or an AD supervising me
The skills developed aren't really relevant to my degree, but in terms of my career: I have a much more thorough understanding of financial terms and processes and would feel confident explaining them. It's also always good to have experience in a professional environment
The Company
Everyone, regardless of seniority, is friendly and approachable, and everyone in the team really does want to get to know you as a person. The office did have a tendency to get slightly louder as it got later, but these were mostly amusing comments that are probably needed to keep everyone going at that time
Regular speaker sessions from internal and external speakers were given on a weekly basis, as were tutorials in specific products and valuation techniques. Overall it was very structured and it never felt like I was unsure what was happening
UBS really does treat it's interns like employees: you're never made to feel like an outsider. I really feel that every resource was put towards intern development and integration into the company

Yet to hear whether or not I have an offer, but I would really like to work for this firm. The turnaround is really quick - you actually find out on your final day whether or not a full-time employment offer is going to be made which, whilst maybe a bit daunting as a prospect, I also see as a good opportunity to get feedback (good or bad)
The Culture
Plenty of social events were set up by the company and because of the kind of people UBS hires, I've got on with all of my fellow interns and with all the full-time employees I've encountered. Even when time is limited, people are happy to just grab a coffee with you and have a quick chat
It's London, so accommodation is never going to be super-cheap, but the salary that UBS pays you ensures that you can afford to live comfortably. In terms of socializing it's in a really nice area: Broadgate circle itself is wonderful and everywhere nearby is great.
Pretty lively! But in all honesty I'm not really a huge "nightlife" person....
It depends on what projects you're staffed on - I found time for my hobbies, but it was more of a concerted effort than usual.
