The Role
It was a great experience during which I met many people with different backgrounds, seniority and skillset. I also learned a lot in a technical point of view, working on my projects and desk shadowing in different desks.
Depending on the rotation - in the second rotation I felt particularly valued by my colleagues. I was untrusted with interesting projects that actually add value to the team, I felt useful and I really appreciated that.
Again, depending on the rotation - I felt like my Line Manager on the second rotation was more supportive than the first one. But overall, they were both always available to answer my questions and help me through my objectives.
Days were very busy - I learned how to manage my time between my work on the desk (objectives), trainings, meetings, interviews, social and networking events.
I was untrusted with the responsibility to work on projects that actually add value to the team - I had to contact people outside the bank to gather factual data for my project and also meet with people inside the bank from different departments (legal, research), which was also very interesting for me.
The two main skills and developed during this internship and that are going to be very useful beyond my studies are time management and networking skills.
The Company
Overall people are really nice and friendly, I felt comfortable - a good place to work
Very well organized - always received emails from HR to remind us of all the events and things to do. HR also set up group and one to one meetings to answer our questions - which was very helpful
In my second rotation we had a one hour training slot per day
Very appealing - on a reputational perspective, Barclays in working hard on its values, which are really appreciate. People within the bank are also very friendly respectful and give importance to those values. In addition to the fact that Barclays in a Bulge Bracket Investment Bank
