The Role
Very much enjoyed my internship, it was a rewarding experience. People in the team were really nice and approachable, totally exceeded my expectations. Learned a lot during the internship, and it provided a very good insight into the company and an actuarial career. Definitely recommend this programme to anyone interested in actuarial work.
We were given a variety of client work, and received feedback from most of the big tasks and any presentations. They always started with encouraging and praising us for what we did, and then kindly pointed out things that could have been improved or any technical mistakes I made. I felt trusted by my colleagues throughout the internship.
An impressive amount of training sessions were given by different people in the team at the start of the programme, and guidance was provided every time when we were given a new type of work to do. The training sessions were well-structured and really helpful. My mentors always answered my questions very quickly, and provided great support.
I've always got something to do, but the deadlines weren't too tight. Weekly workload meetings really helped, everyone listed the work they've got to do so that people who aren't too busy could help out. We could manage the workload ourselves and there was no need to work for extra hours. Overall I was very happy with the balance.
We were given the opportunities to send some external emails and make some external phone calls. A variety of client work were assigned to us, and we were given a lot more responsibility I could have expected to receive as a summer intern. We had the opportunity to do technical presentations on team meeting as well, overall we were given the amount of responsibility that I felt happy to take.
Learned a lot of actuarial technical knowledge and improved my excel skills. From the feedback I was given, I came to be more confident with giving presentations and communicating with people, and this would definitely help with my future career.
The Company
Really easy-going people in the office, even the seniors are easy to approach. Great communication between different teams and different offices, the whole company was like a family.
