The Role
It has been a great year spent with GSK. I've had a great mentor/coach, and learnt a lot. If I would get a change to do it all over again I or pick a different company I would not change anything.
I've had the opportunity to work with a great team. Even though I've had a global role and worked with people from all over the world. I felt very valued and welcomed in the team when first joined.
There was always support and guided when I needed it, even though I was always steered in trying to make decisions on my own feet, and try to come up with an answer rather than just bring up a problem and expect someone else to fix it. Overall though, great coaching and support throughout the year, and not just from my manager but also colleagues and anyone that I was in touch with, everyone is very friendly and willing to help if you ask for it.
Days varied, some days I did not know where the time went, but there were also days where things were moving slow, this would mainly be the holiday season when most people were away and the site was running under light governance.
It started of with a little responsibility to see how well I can handle it. Towards the end I was running a programme deployment with 8 project running simultaneously, therefore I believe I had a great deal of responsibility on my year at GSK
The whole year has been a learning curve and every day I learnt something new, or developed skills that I already had. Coming from a computer science background and moving to a business one, it was hard at first to grasp the concepts, but everyone was very supporting throughout my development
The Company
Very friendly atmosphere, with monthly team breakfasts and dinner nights out with the team. Everyone is very supporting of each other. The members within the team are very approachable.
On terms of GSK, it has been very organised and structured, my manager had my coaching layed out throughout the year and had a structured approach. Even though this was the case, the mentality was that there is always time for learning, so if I found something and I was interested in doing a certain training course. I would be supported by manager in completing it.
My team/ manager was always very supportive in getting training and development. Therefore every time I found an opportunity and wanted to learn something new, my manager was on board.

Working from home
It is not easy to just get offered a job in my team. But you stand a higher chance just by working with the company and learning how the business works.
The Culture
There were roughly 15 students at the site that I was based. everyone was very friendly and would go out socialising every weekend and even during the week.
As it wasn't central London, prices were affordable and very much student based. not much of a different to University prices.
getting into London and a good nightlife only takes about 45 minutes, therefore very good access to good night life even though not a lot is happening around here.
There are many things you could get involved with. With and without GSK. Students would usually create activities for themselves, and keep themselves occupied. But many things to get involved without GSK and orange days, things such as though mudders and parachute jumping.
