    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • It has been a great year spent with GSK. I've had a great mentor/coach, and learnt a lot. If I would get a change to do it all over again I or pick a different company I would not change anything.

    5/5

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • I've had the opportunity to work with a great team. Even though I've had a global role and worked with people from all over the world. I felt very valued and welcomed in the team when first joined.

    5/5

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • There was always support and guided when I needed it, even though I was always steered in trying to make decisions on my own feet, and try to come up with an answer rather than just bring up a problem and expect someone else to fix it. Overall though, great coaching and support throughout the year, and not just from my manager but also colleagues and anyone that I was in touch with, everyone is very friendly and willing to help if you ask for it.

    5/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • Days varied, some days I did not know where the time went, but there were also days where things were moving slow, this would mainly be the holiday season when most people were away and the site was running under light governance.

    5/5

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • It started of with a little responsibility to see how well I can handle it. Towards the end I was running a programme deployment with 8 project running simultaneously, therefore I believe I had a great deal of responsibility on my year at GSK

    5/5

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • The whole year has been a learning curve and every day I learnt something new, or developed skills that I already had. Coming from a computer science background and moving to a business one, it was hard at first to grasp the concepts, but everyone was very supporting throughout my development

    5/5

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • Very friendly atmosphere, with monthly team breakfasts and dinner nights out with the team. Everyone is very supporting of each other. The members within the team are very approachable.

    5/5

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • On terms of GSK, it has been very organised and structured, my manager had my coaching layed out throughout the year and had a structured approach. Even though this was the case, the mentality was that there is always time for learning, so if I found something and I was interested in doing a certain training course. I would be supported by manager in completing it.

    5/5

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • My team/ manager was always very supportive in getting training and development. Therefore every time I found an opportunity and wanted to learn something new, my manager was on board.

    5/5

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • Subsidised Canteen

    Subsidised/Company Gym

    Financial Bonus

    Above 25 days holiday

    Working from home

    3/5

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • It is not easy to just get offered a job in my team. But you stand a higher chance just by working with the company and learning how the business works.

    4/5

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • There were roughly 15 students at the site that I was based. everyone was very friendly and would go out socialising every weekend and even during the week.

    5/5

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • As it wasn't central London, prices were affordable and very much student based. not much of a different to University prices.

    5/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • getting into London and a good nightlife only takes about 45 minutes, therefore very good access to good night life even though not a lot is happening around here.

    4/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • There are many things you could get involved with. With and without GSK. Students would usually create activities for themselves, and keep themselves occupied. But many things to get involved without GSK and orange days, things such as though mudders and parachute jumping.

    4/5
