The Role
I really enjoyed my Internship at Nomura, everyone is willing to go out of their way to help you settle in and give you a hand if you are unsure how to carry out a task. I was given real responsibility from day 1 and therefore I felt like I was having an impact in the team.
Everyone at Nomura was very welcoming and they were always willing to help. I was given work that went to senior management and even to external regulators, therefore I always felt like the work I was doing was valuable.
Nomura makes sure you always have help if you need it. When you arrive you are given a mentor and a buddy who are there to help if you ever get stuck. On top of this everyone in the team is always willing to step in if you are stuck.
I always had work to carry out, which is good, busy days are the best days! I never felt like I was sitting around waiting for some work to come up, I always had work to keep me busy.
I was given responsibility from day one. I contributed to metrics that were submitted to external regulators. I also sent out emails to a group of people where the content of the email would then be used to carry out a follow on task therefore this information needed to be correct.
Some of the skills I developed are confidence, time-management, excel skills, which will all help with my future studies, as you need these skills when carrying out University work. I will also feel more confident when presenting in the future whether it's at university or even later on in my life.
The Company
The atmosphere at Nomura is great!! Everyone is always willing to help you out if you are stuck. The office if lovely and it have a selection of food, with a gym and health centre. There are also many socials where you can network and get to know other people. In addition, the societies Nomura has means there is something for everyone.
The Internship is very well organised, there are ice breakers at the start to get to know the other Interns. Also there is 3 days training which allows you to learn more about the firm. Then throughout the Internship there are several reviews and catch ups to make sure you are okay. In addition thee are overview sessions put on so you can learn about other areas of the business and how they all fit together.
The company put on various overview sessions which allowed us to understand the business more. Also there are many online training exercises which means you can develop your own skills where you feel fit. These online training session are great to help develop knowledge and skills.

The future employment prospects are very appealing, Nomura have a Graduate programme which means there is an option to come back and work here in the future. Nomura are always looking to train up under people who can grown and develop within Nomura.
The Culture
The social aspect at Nomura is great. There is a roof terrace bar which is open every Thursday in summer and this gives you a chance to meet new people and catch up with colleagues in a non-work environment. Also HR put of several socials throughout the internship to give us a chance to meet up with fellow interns.
The cost of living in London is more than other parts of the country. But this is just something that you will get used to, and as the Internship is paid it is more than enough to cover the cost of living in London. I have not had any problems with no having enough money over the 10 weeks here.
There was always stuff going on at night in the area I worked. There is a terrace bar at work which is open on Thursdays, and there is a bar downstairs which is always busy and lively. In addition, Shoreditch is close by which is where many young people go to bars in the evening.
There were several opportunities to get involves in activities outside of work. I took part in a Volunteering day at a city farm, which was a lot of fun and the same times as giving back to the community. I also helped out at a employability workshop, where we helped young adults from Tower hamlets youth council with how to write CVs and structure answers to interview questions. These opportunities allow you to meet other people.
