    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • Citi was a fantastic place to work in. Some of the people there are some of the brightest minds I've met. They will engage with you and make you feel that you are on par with them. They will encourage you to work and they will drive you to achieve more in your career because they care about developing talent in their teams and in the Citi space. They appreciate your quantsy skills but also your soft skills and you are encouraged at all time to highlight your strengths and weaknesses

    5/5

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • My opinion was valued, it is difficult to voice your opinions in a stressful environment like markets, but if you go to people and ask for their time they will give it to you and listen to what you have to say. Feedback sessions were given, evaluation forms, presentation skills development, some workshops were done and opportunities to network as well. This was very well done from senior management

    4/5

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • Management often asked if I understood what was going on. They always said that there is no such thing as a stupid question. The feedback sessions were useful to support you and to guide you to delivering a better version of yourself everyday. I felt that HR were also involved in that support structure

    5/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • Extremely busy, you often worked long hours to complete something for your supervisor, but you do so with a lot of commitment and interest. But sometimes, you found yourself without work, so you would shadow, watch what people are doing and that's when you learn the most.. They will give some of their time to teach you and don't be scared to ask.

    5/5

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • A lot of responsibility, I delivered a project to senior management and that was then forwarded further on to other senior people in the bank. You feel your work is valued, feedback was given and your way of doing things changes as you appreciate how to work in the corporate world.

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • The excel skills, presentation skills were really developed, but also dealing with people from different backgrounds, with different opinions is also valuable. You develop your business awareness and ability to expand in depth on a particular project you work in. You pick up some coding ability if you want to, skill learning is encouraged.

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • Stressful at times of heavy market activity, it becomes difficult for people to interact with you, but you understand and you get on with your work until things calm down and there is often fun then, as people will engage with you. That's the nature of the business. You're not invisible, its just people are busy.

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • HR was brilliant from the interview process, they gave valuable feedback and quick answers, the organisation of the first days were good, although we should have had more technical training which would have helped us on the desk. During the internship, their were times where some events were not well organised, not enough intern interaction was done.

    4/5

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • The company invests a lot of infrastructure in you, you get access to Bloomberg anywhere, you get access to email on your phone if you request it, training week also featured some good training modules from external organisers. We also had a day off where we went on a day out to play some games and that was relaxing. A lot of money was invested in running this programme.

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • Very appealing, you are encouraged to ask people of what life is like after the internship, you are encouraged to enquire about the future on other desks should you want to join the graduate programme and if you're given the opportunity. You will be assessed on your credentials during the internship and you will be given the opportunity if you receive good feedback from your desks

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • There was, everyone interacted with each other, we went on nights out, made good friends and it was good fun overall, you could tell you made friends with people who would go on to be your future colleagues and you at all times wanted to ensure you had a good relationship with them. It was difficult to organise things given how busy everyone was, but we had one night out every week on average.

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • London is very expensive, east London where we worked was a bit less expensive, rents vary from £180-220pw. However you have easy access to some discounter shops which made things cheaper. Bars in canary wharf are quite expensive but that's just the nature of the area and the people who work in the area.

    4/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • Good bars and socials scene, HR organised some events at certain bars around the area. There were no clubs in the area however. There was a wide variety of bars that different people frequent, also the Canada square is turned into a stage in the summer with concerts taking place and its often packed, people watch Wimbledon as well, so there's a lot of entertainment

    4/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • A lot of opportunities, you can play football, join a variety of networks for women, veterans, minorities, so there's always a way to engage at work with people like you. More maybe can be done to expand on the sports available. A social club being organised would be nice for people who would like to engage more with the people they work with.
