The Role
It was a fantastic experience and I really enjoyed it. We had one week of training together, then we had two rotations on different desks. The rotations were excellent for understanding the work the different desks actually undertake. We also had lots of organised events such as the weekly trading game and speaker series, which were great.
To a very large extent. Both of the teams I rotated with asked me to complete work that truly impacted the business. If you prove that you can work hard and to a high quality, the teams will give you more and more responsibility and also provide excellent feedback, so that you can develop and improve moving forward.
I was given fantastic support and guidance by management on both of my rotations. We had interim progress meetings to assess how I was performing and to give advice on how to improve moving forward. Additionally, both managers have asked me to stay in contact no matter where I am in future for any guidance or support I may need, as they really care about developing their interns.
Very busy. On my rotations the teams wanted me to achieve the most I could and reach my potential, so they gave me numerous projects to complete, which was fantastic. Along with desk work, it is also important to spend time shadowing other desks and completing work for the trade game too, so time management is definitely necessary and sometimes a challenge.
I was given a very large amount of responsibility. Once I showed the teams I was capable and would complete work to a high standard, they trusted me to give me much more responsibility. I was completing work that directly fed into their work and was able to add value to the team in this way.
We have had a lot of time spent helping us to develop our transferable skills such as communication and presentation skills. Skills such as these are incredibly important in all aspects of life and will definitely be useful for final year university presentations. Additionally, a focus on attention to detail will be very relevant in my studies and life going forward.
The Company
There is generally a very positive atmosphere. There is always a buzz on the floor, in particular when big events come out. On the whole, I would say that the feeling I got was that everyone supports each other and works closely together to achieve what is best for the client and for the firm.
I cannot fault the organisation of the internship. I was impressed with the time and thought that went into every detail. For example, we were allocated buddies and it could be seen that time and effort had gone into matching up interns with buddies that either had common interests or backgrounds. There was a clear structure in the calendar on the intern app we had and deadlines were clearly stated in advance.

Future employment prospects are very appealing. I would definitely take up a full time role with the firm should I be offered. Citi really focuses on developing individuals and is the perfect place to start a career, where you will learn, gain skills and be given the chance to really add-value to the team and the business.
The Culture
Yes there was a good social scene. It was good to meet the intern group properly during the training in the first week. There is a big group, so there are lots of people to meet. It was useful to have things such as the trading game and speaker events so that we got more time to see each other. After this there were also lots of drinks/brunches/events organised so that we could spend more time together.
