The Role
I was given meaningful tasks and a lot of responsibility which really helped to motivate me in my work and enjoy the scheme. The activities provided in order for the interns to socialise were great fun and it aided in a very social month.
In all work that I completed, my team were appreciative or when the work wasn't exactly what they wanted, very open to helping me develop and improve. From day one, I felt very comfortable with them and valued.
If I had any questions or queries, my mentor was always happy to help, as was my supervisor.
Overall, I was kept very busy but due to the number of colleagues on holiday, there were a couple of slow days which allowed me to concentrate on tasks set to the interns.
The team are currently switching programmes for their database and I was given immense responsibility in transferring data and organising a system that they shall be using to reference in all future projects. Overall, I was given a lot of responsibility and more so than I had expected for an unqualified intern.
I feel that my work over the month has given me far more understanding for the working environment, terminology and business on goings that are fantastic for me to bring back to my studies and incorporate into my future work.
The Company
The Margaret Street office strikes me as an incredibly professional workspace but full of social and very open employees. With Savills' open door policy, I was able to meet many professionals to discuss what they did within the company, their experiences and for them to give me advice.
Overall, the organisation was very good as we had checklists given to us, email reminders of events and many activities organised for us. The only problem was that the occasional email had contradictory information.
Savills are very insistant that the Interns and Grads are the future of the company so we were very much catered for and a lot of people's time was spent teaching us and mentoring us. I have been able to talk to anyone within the company for advice and chats and they have all been very willing to help.
Company Parties/Events
I would love to work there and I shall apply for their graduate scheme
The Culture
On the first day, we set up a whatsapp chat for the interns and we regularly have lunch together and drinks after work. Obviously not all are quite as social but the vast majority have been very keen for social events.
As a student, the month has been very expensive to live in London, commute and have a social life. The money that I have earned for the month has just covered the expenses.
There are many fantastic bars, pubs and restaurants and due to the connectivity, it has been very easy to see friends all over London for drinks and going out. But it is once again, very expensive when not on a graduate wage.
We have been very fortunate that Savills have provided activities for us such as a rounders event. Apart from that, I have been to Street Carnivals, Beer festivals and to watch the cricket at Lords whilst I have been on the internship.
