The Role
I really enjoyed some of the projects that I worked on, including charity work for The Prince's Trust and taking part in some diversity and inclusion initiatives. I would have liked more responsibility and tasks at the beginning of the internship.
Colleagues often gave positive feedback which suggested I was a valued member of the team.
My manager was often very busy and the main support I got was from my Atos Buddy, a graduate in HR.
At the beginning and end of the internship there are not as many tasks to do. However in the middle of the internship I had lots of fun and interesting projects to work on.
In the middle of my internship I was given extra responsibility because my manager went on leave. This meant I had to plan and organise a well-being week, which was fun to do and great experience.
I developed lots of skills including presenting, knowledge of HR and commercial awareness.
The Company
I made friends quite quickly with the other grads, interns and people in HR. But as it was summer, many were on annual leave and I was unfortunately assigned a desk without someone to sit next to for most of my internship.
I would have liked more organisation at the start of my internship as I was not sure what to do in my first two weeks. When the projects started, I felt that I could really make an impact on decision-making. Also, there are plenty of options to volunteer for things - as I did not have much to do at the start of the internship, I volunteered to help other teams which meant that I had things to do.
We had a three day induction but this was a month after I started. This would have been better if it was within the first two weeks. There are also mandatory e-learning courses to start and then optional courses to deepen your knowledge of the business. Some direct and personal training would have been beneficial.
Company Parties/Events
Working from home
I would like yo know about other areas of the graduate schemes but the company was very friendly.
The Culture
There seems to be more social life in the London office. I was based in the Reading office where there are not many graduates and interns.
The cost of living was very high and I lived in student accommodation for the summer. The best social spaces are in Reading itself when the office is just outside of Reading. It therefore takes some time to organise social events.
In Reading there is always something to do, with many bars, clubs and local restaurants.
I don't think I completed any activities outside of work.
