The Role
I really enjoy the time I spent at Barclays. This is definitely a great place start of my career because all my colleagues are really helpful and supportive. With their help, I could learn more and explore more because they are always happy to answer the questions I have. There are also many great and valuable events organised for the interns.
My colleagues show their trust on me by assigning me tasks that make real changes and impacts on the team's deliverables. They value my opinions and work. Usually I could have a good overview about the purpose and different stages of a project so that I could understand how my work is integrated into the whole project.
The team and my Line Manager were very supportive and helpful. When I first entered the team knowing little about my team's deliverables, my Line Manager spent time with me talking me through some pieces of works the team produced and arranged catch up sessions for me to ask questions. This was really helpful and helped me build a good foundation for me to participate more in the team's deliverables later.
At the beginning of the program I did not have a lot of projects to do but definitely got busier later. I had both individual project and team project to work on so became really busy in the last few weeks. Although challening it was definitely a great chance to improve my time management and mult-tasking skills.
As mentioned in the second quesion, my work was valued by my colleagues and I felt that they gave me sufficient responsibilities to challenge myself and encourage me to learn more. With a broad range of objectives, I coud acquire or improve different skills therefore the experience is really valuable to me.
During the internship, I had opportunities to improve different skills including communication skill, networking skill, time management, problem solving etc. I received trainings on basic Java coding, how to expand networks etc. which are really useful for my future career and study. I also had a better understanding about the operations of a bank
The Company
Busy but cheerful, welcoming
I was quite impresses by how the program was well structured and carefully designed for the intern with many meaning objectives set. Frequest catch up and review sessions were included so that we could get feedback on our works and raise any concerns on time.
