The Role
I thoroughly enjoyed my time and JLL and would recommend the internship to anyone interested in the property sector.
I felt extremely valued by my colleagues. A lot of the employees in the team I worked in were on holiday during my internship so there was always plenty of work to do. Everything I worked on directly helped the team which meant my contribution was always appreciated.
I received plenty of support not only from my designated line manager but also from the team and assigned ‘buddy.’ During the month you're very much encouraged to try and speak with as many people in the business as possible no matter how senior they might be and everyone was very generous with their time.
I was always kept busy during the month mainly due to the fact that a lot of my team were on holiday and therefore there was always plenty of work to do. As well as this on most days HR had organised sessions for the interns where representatives from different departments within JLL came and talked about their own business area.
As this is a 1 month internship there is only so much responsibility you can be given. Having said that I still felt I was given a good amount of responsibility and straight away on the first day I was carrying out valuations of a large portfolio of properties.
Being able to process data quickly was a key part of my role and so a lot of the skills I learnt on Excel will be directly relevant for when I go back to university. Unfortunately I did not get the opportunity to attend a client meeting and so I did not get to see and learn any skills associated with that side of the job.
The Company
The general atmosphere in the office was relatively corporate as you would expect but still very friendly.
The overall internship was well set up. HR had organised a detailed timetable full of talks and site visits. I was able to get started on some valuations straight away and then at the end of the internship HR also organised exit interviews for everyone. Only down side was some of the interns had issues getting set up properly on the IT systems which wasted a bit of time in the first week.
Considering the internship was only 1 month I felt the company invested quite a lot in terms of training and development. In particular they organised a presentation skills session early on in the internship and then on the penultimate day everyone had the opportunity to deliver a presentation in pairs.
Sports and Social Club
Company Parties/Events
Prospects are very good at the company. JLL have a very established and well thought off grad programme and all the interns were put forward for the assessment day.
The Culture
The social scene was great and was one of the best things about the internship. There were 12 interns and everyone got on extremely well and we regularly went out for drinks after work. During the placement HR also organised an evening where we went to an escape room which everyone really enjoyed.
The placement was in central London and therefore the cost of living was very expensive as you would expect, however the company did pay the London living wage.
The nightlife was excellent as you would expect with the placement being in Central London. The company also held a couple of after work drinks during the month.
13. JLL have a huge range of activities that their employees can get involved in outside of work. This includes the weekly running club, several other sports team and a wide range of volunteering opportunities. Interns were encouraged to get involved in wherever possible in whatever they were interested in.
