The Role
Slow at first but once the work began it became very interesting. The work was varied and gave a good insight into the area I was working in. It also gave me the opportunity to develop many skills I would not normally have exposure to - this included work on some specific computer programs.
The team I worked in always showed respect for the fact I was always learning and aided me in anyway they could, they were open to questions and pointed me in the right direction for any queries I had. By the conclusion they were letting me take active roles in some investigative work and the feedback they gave on these tasks was wholly positive.
Lots of very good support: - specific learning sessions for computer programs I had to learn in order to contribute to the team. - guidance as to the best way to gather data and present data - guidance on how to run a professional presentation constructive and useful comments and observations about many aspects of working life
7/10 on the basis that on some days I would of liked more work to do, especially at the start. This was due to my constrained skill set. As the internship progressed I began to have more task to complete and by the end I would often be working on 2/3 tasks simultaneously. This was good as it meant I was never bored and always had a challenge/problem to solve each day by the end of the internship.
For each of the 2 months here I had monthly deadlines to meet. This grew month on month as the guidance, number, and detail required on the tasks assigned to me grew. The work became ever more independent that added another layer of responsibility. I was, like the senior members in my team, delivering work that was critical to the wider team. This responsibility continued until the end of my internship.
I received some very thorough training in coding programs necessary for my job. I also had the chance to apply this to live pieces of work that gave me a deeper understanding on how to apply the classroom work. I will continue developing these skills post internship now I understand in more detail the skills needed. I also got constructive feedback on how to present professionally in time constrained business scenarios.
