The Role
Thoroughly enjoyed my internship, it has been a fantastic experience. The process of being placed within my position as an intern was incredibly smooth and I felt I was able to seamlessly fit into my team. The emerging talent team have been in touch throughout the duration of the internship and my manager has been fantastic in supporting and encouraging me throughout my time here.
I felt incredibly valued by my colleagues. I had no qualms about approaching them for help on any topic or issue and they were always happy to help. I felt comfortable to contribute to team conversations and give my input on a one-to-one basis as well and always felt that my contributions were valued.
I was incredibly well supported within my team and had a clear structure of line management and supervision which was made clear to me from day one. I had weekly one-to-one meetings with my manager as well as daily catch ups with the senior member of my team which ensured I was always able to get the support and guidance I needed.
As I was based within a Project Management team the work peaked and troughed which meant I had the perfect balance between being busy with work and being busy with personal development, shadowing and networking. It was so important to be able to have a mixture of both and I was constantly encouraged by my manager to seek guidance on either or let him know if I had too much or too little of anything.
I was given a fantastic amount of responsibility during my internship. My manager trusted me to manage my own time as I had expressed to him ahead of my internship that I was comfortable to do so. On top of this I was trusted to take on projects and stakeholder management which were on going within the team and therefore not fabricated for the purposes of the internship.
The skills I have developed are all transferable across businesses and academia. Whilst the training was mainly focussed around financial services due to the nature of the industry, I was granted the opportunity to attend a Coloured Square workshop which is wholly focussed on developing individuals and communication techniques. The main skills I have developed which will help me with my studies will be my stakeholder management, communication techniques, project work and time management.
The Company
The general atmosphere was always positive and made for a good place to work. Not once did I not look forward to coming into work.
The central Emerging Talent team did a fine job in ensuring the internship placement and everything related to this went as smoothly as possible. This then fed into and informed how line managers were able to organise and manage the internship and made for a fantastic experience.
The company did everything I could reasonably expect of them and more to invest in me, allowing me the time to complete e-learning, giving me opportunities and sending me on workshops.

Very appealing. I have another internship with LBG next year and I intend to join their graduate programme.
The Culture
The camaraderie between fellow interns was fantastic. Though I did not live in the same accommodation as the rest of the interns as I stayed at home, I enjoyed strong working relationships with all interns I came in contact with and enjoyed socialising with them outside of work as well.
As I work in Edinburgh the cost of accommodation is high as is the cost of eating and drinking out. However, as with most places, you can find cheaper places if you so wish.
Excellent. Interning in Edinburgh during the Edinburgh Festival - whats not to like?
Yes - I played basketball with a colleague and other interns. There was a great environment and culture for getting involved both inside and outside work.
