The Role
Fantastic - great opportunity to rotate on two different desks within Markets which broadens your experience and network.
Fitted in very well and can add value to the teams you're on, They are always interested to have a 'fresh set of eyes' to look at things differently.
I received a lot of support from not just my managers but the whole of the team. Everyone is very approachable - even if a trader is busy, they will most likely tell you to come back later.
Pretty busy most days and worked longer hours than the rest of the team. The work you are doing helps you to learn though so it's enjoyable. As interns, you don't just have the desk work to do - you have a formal presentation, a trading game and shadowing alongside the day to day.
You are limited in what you can do as an intern because you aren't FCA qualified and there is often a grad which can reduce the amount of work available for an intern to pick up. However, you do get the opportunity to learn the fundamentals, shadow the desk and pick up projects that the desk want to complete but don't necessarily have the time to look at.
I had already graduated once I started the internship.
The Company
Very fun, fast paced and exciting. Lots of noise!
Very well organised. I think they really do listen to feedback from previous years. The fact you get to rotate twice and also participate in the trading game is a fantastic opportunity.
I think it's often up to the intern to make the most of the time on the trading floor - it's the people you sit with and speak to that you learn from and how that translates into the work you do.
Subsidised/Company Gym
Company Parties/Events
Very. Graduate program has four rotations, each 10 weeks long so you get the opportunity to experience different asset classes across different roles (sales, trading, research, structuring, quants).
The Culture
Yes. There are a number of events where all of the interns meet where it's at work or at the end of internship event.
Fairly expensive (I believe) to rent in Canary Wharf. Social scene is quite expensive in terms of drinks.
Lots of bars - good for Thursday and Friday night. Lots of restaurants. No clubs.
There are a lot of things that go on outside of work but as an intern I didn't get much time to explore this as I was working long hours!
